bus ride from Agra to Udaipur and from Udaipur to Jaipur

Hello,

I am looking for a bus ride from Agra to Udaipur and from Udaipur to Jaipur. Could you please advise which site I should be looking at? I found the below thread but I am not sure which site I should be looking at.

Online bus ticket reservation sites

Many thanks,

Perhaps you already have, but I would advice that the train is much better for long journeys like that.

Moreover, I'd advise and often do that many buses just won't be online, so it's often a matter still of just figuring it out on the ground.

The good news is this is usually easily done. That thread you pointed to is good for anything that can be handled on the web though.

Hello thank you for the replies. I already checked the trains, but they don't suit, ie. I want to leave early in the morning, but the trains leave in the afternoon….
Would you be able to point me to a site that will have the bus schedules and bookings?

Many thanks,

Kelly, those are long trips that will take up most of the daylight hours.

Overnight trains really do save time as you'd only be sleeping in a hotel in any case.

Also, I'm no expert on buses, but I doubt you'll get a bus from Agra to Udaipur, they're 2 great tourist destinations, but I can't see a company filling buses regularly.

excatly a train seems lot better rather than wasting time in bus. it does save your time.

Kelly, using that thread you yourself pointed to in your post #1 above, the first thing you could do is look up the appropriate companies covering the relevant states. (So in this case, Rajasthan and, er, where is Agra? Uttar Pradesh I suppose.)

The first you will come across will be obvious state companies (so roughly public buses; these may often feature regular and deluxe and whatever buses). A thing is they'll often be limited to that state, although they would commonly cover travel to the adjoining states at least.

The next class would be private companies where, on that thread, it's often stated what regions they cover. You'll then be left with a whole lotta private companies that you'll just have to check yourself what they cover, I guess. These private companies may again be limited/limit themselves to given regions; if anything (and crazy distances apart), there are (as far as I know) tolls to be paid by them when crossing state borders, so I guess that helps explain it. (Or they may not have a permit there, or would have to pay for one, or whatever.)

If there are buses from say Agra to Udaipur I can't tell you; apart from being quite some distance, there would again be these state border considerations. This can practically always be resolved by making one or a couple of connections though; which can however arguably turn a trip into a rather grueling affair. (And note you won't typically be able to get a ticket in advance for any connection, so it means getting out and arranging your next ride, hoping there is one available.)

I guess say Udaipur to Jaipur I might consider if I couldn't get a convenient train (or, and in effect, none at all rather), but then I am much less averse to bus travel than most here (and I do sometimes come to regret it, sure). Beyond that, in India and with the typical distances you'll have to cover there, I would consider "convenient" a train that gets me there non-exhausted, so adjusting my schedule to it; not one that happens to leave at my most preferred hour.

On how to catch buses on the ground and stuff I've written often before, you could use the search engine to look for my previous posts on it. I may have left some thoughts on it on that online buses thread even.

In all of this and I said it already, do remember many buses just won't be online. It really is much easier to figure it out on the ground if you ask me; if you do so whenever you land in a place or have a rough idea of when you'll want to be leaving again, it should rarely fail. There are simply so many, they rarely book out the way trains do (although catching them really really on the spot can always be a gamble, of course. So again, and as with trains, the sooner you can enquire about them the better, of course. Unlike as with trains though, if you can do so a day or several ahead, this should normally suffice.) Longer-distance, trains are obviously the far more comfortable option.

not sure if it is still relevant, but you can check the site -

http://www.ticketvala.com/
www.redbus.in

Be reminded that most of the buses would ordinary and not fitted with AC. They have both seating (2 seats on one side of the aisle) and sleeper option (ordinary foam bed).

Happy tripping...
