Bus It or Train It? Udaipur

Hi all,

1st trip to India this december and was just wondering which would be better: To take a bus or cab from ajmer to Udaipur? or tke a train from Ajmer to Udaipur?

Also, are there any recommendations on good tourist travel operators that can help us tourists in Ajmer?

Thanks!

What sort of help would you need in Ajmer? You can hire a ricksha or a tonga (horse-drawn carriage) to see the four or six major sites. It's a small town.

And from Ajmer rail station, you can get a bus to Pushkar; you'll arrive in half an hour.

you best take a car/bus from jaipur to udaipur. or catch the lake city express between delhi-udaipur at its nearest point to jaipur. since i live where you do you could have a word with me on the phone about any india related questions you may have.

The train is the obvious option.

There's an overnight train (2965 GWL UDZ SUP EXP) that departs Ajmer at 00:50 each day and arrives in Udaipur at 06:10. The train has 1A, 2A, 3A and SL accommodation.

There's also train 2992 (AII UDZ EXP) that departs Ajmer at 15:55 daily and arrives in Udaipur at 21:20. This train has CC and 2S accommodation.

... Or do it on foot even, I think? Yes, it's really not very big.

It's always good to be in possession of some facts before offering advice.

But why would you take the discussion OFF the forum, Singsub?

singsub...thanks for your offer. perhaps i will call you if i feel that i cld do with more info. otherwise, i'll just use the forum as a source since its so helpful for a beginner india traveller like myself.

getting back, i've decided to skip ajmer since i won't be heading to pushkar. so i'll just night-train it from jaipur all the way to udaipur. you guys think this is a good decision?

i'm also wondering how to get to ranthambore tiger reserve from jaipur. is it a long way and shld i get a taxi or bus?

cheers and millions of thanks to all!!!
