| Bangalore-Hampi-Mysore by Road Hi all, Next March I was hoping to travel by road from Bangalore to Hampi, spend three nights at Hampi, and then travel back from Hampi to Mysore. How long should it take me to travel Bangalore- Hampi and Hampi-Mysore? and how much should it cost? (I have been quoted $250 dollars all inclusive for this trip for a/c ambassador). Can anyone recommend a good, reliable driver? Many thanks Emma |

| Hampi and Mysore info. The driver will usually come along with the car so you will have to see if the agency is reliable as then you would normally get a reliable driver too. The trip to Hampi from Bangalore is also possible by the KSTDC bus and the same for Mysore too. If you want to avoid spending on the car then this is the cheaper option. The hotel provided in Hampi by the KSTDC is also alright for the price at about Rs400 to Rs1400 depending on the type of room and the food at the inhouse restaurant is also fine. I would recommend taking the bus but not the tour with KSTDC as they usually have a single day tour which is not worth while so you can always ask them to change the date of departure if possible. It makes much more sense to stay for atleast three days to enjoy the real beauty of the place. You need not have a car to take you around in Hampi but just a autorickshaw or even a bicycle can be hired for pretty cheap once you get there. And most of the places are pretty accessible on foot as well even though it is a very huge complex. Mysore is also as interesting and beautiful to see all the temples in the palace grounds and the ones on top of the Chamundi Hills as well as the Palace Hotel nearby. The Mysore Zoo is also worth visiting as it is a pretty good place for most of the animals as they are not kept in cages but in huge open enclosures with moats so that you see them in a natural habitat. The Ranganathitu Bird Sanctuary nearby is a really wonderful place to enjoy all the pretty birds and the boat ride is fantastic. Tipu Sultan's Palace at Srirangapattina and his tomb and shrine are also worth seeing near Mysore. Great city to explore so don't give it a miss. Hampi to Mysore should be about 5-6 hours by road. And slightly less for Bangalore to Hampi. You mention $250 for the whole trip but you don't say how many days and whether it includes going back to Bangalore from Mysore and how many days totally on the road with the car and driver. It seems like a good price if it is for about a week of travel. You won't be really using the car much when in Hampi but it surely will be useful in Mysore when going to the different places nearby and for the internal travel. Hope this helps. Cheers, Aadil.
