Any chance of doing something fun or interesting while you're in London? Making a day trip of it might make it seem more worthwhile?

Unfortunately, as you say, your passports are already at Hayes, so going to a different VFS application centre isn't an option for you.

Asking VFS or the HCI to progress your application because you have flights booked won't help at all I'm afraid, they deal with applications strictly in order of receipt, which is only fair - though obviously due to their error you deserve to have yours dealt with speedily. They got so fed up with the daily "Give me a visa now, I'm flying tomorrow" pressure on them day that they now tell people not to book flights until they have their visa!

The difference with dealing with UK organisation. Sent for international driving licence with RAC Tuesday, returned yesterday.

Better still, there are many Post Offices that issue IDPs on the spot while you wait!

Unfortunately you cannot telephone VFS to ask simple non-standard questions like this, or "do you have a fax machine that I could fax my amended form to" which is frankly bloody annoying.

p.s. yes, but last year no post office in wales was issuing them the nearest was BRISTOL and that is another story

Perhaps it is different across the bridge.

Good point, everything is different "across the bridge"!

(except I'm further north so for me it's "across the mountains" :P )

AA does IDPs in the post, if that's any good --- but you probably knew that...

Although this is not the page for dealing with IDP's. There are post offices in Wales that issue IDP's. look at this link as an example.

Mike you should know what is on some websites is tosh. We went to the local post offices last year on the lists and all said that the service had been taken away. Emailed P.O. and were told that the nearest was Bristol. So we sent it by post, cheaper than petrol and the Bridge Toll fee. Anyway that is one problem sorted. Perhaps they have reinstated the service.

Well it's to be expected that what is on "some websites" is wrong, the internet is full of duff information but it's a pretty poor show if the post offices OWN website is wrong. Which site did you check?

I'll be renewing mine at a Post Office listed on their website as issuing IDPs later this week, I'll report back on how it goes.

I personally send mine of to the RAC and have it returned within 2 days. My brothers go to Shrewsbury PO ( over the border ). They find it suits them better.

It is the larger post offices that have the facility issue IDP's

I Do however agree, phone the post office to see whether that particular PO does issue IDP's.

That's a bit risky, isn't it?
