Am I being cheated with car price?

Will travel in September and for some of the trip I plan to have my own car with driver. Just received a quote for a Toyota Innova 40.000Rs for 5 days. The trip would be as follows:
Day 1: Pickup Udipur drive to Jodhpur
Day 3: Drive from Jodhpur to Jaisalmer
Day 5: Drive from Jaisalmer to Jodhpur (where we take overnight train to Agra)

My gut feeling is they are trying to cheat me bigtime, how much should I expect to pay for the trip in a nice large car with A/C?

Yes, you are being overcharged. Avoid.

Here are some rough calculations that you may use as a basis for negotiation:

Udaipur to Jodhpur 270 km + Jodhpur to Jaisalmer 270 = 540 km

Total counting the return (to starting point) Udaipur : 1080 km.

Estimated charge per km for an Innova with AC = 15 Rs.

Total charge = 16,200 Rs.

Bottom line, you should be able to get a newer Innova between
17000 and 19000 including driver and other tariffs.

I checked with RTDC in last December. They calculated in this way -

Per km fare is Rs 15 ( the car was not innova)

They will charge for 250 Km each day , so for 5 days I have to pay at least 18750 (5*250*15) . If the total distance travelled is more than 1250 km (5*250) then I have pay extra for the extra distance. but if my travel is less than 1250 km i have to pay 18750.

all toll taxes would be paid by me.

for driver the additional cost is Rs 100 per day , total 500. Normally people provide lunch and snacks to the driver and give a good tip on the final day but this is not mandatory and must not be part of the amount charged by car owner.

check the website of RTDC, you will get the rate for all types of cars.

If this is not a innova the charges seems a little on the high side..I recently hired a innova for 12 Rp per Kilometer.

I used Rs 15 jut to show the calculation. in my case it was non ac tavera, i forgot the actual rate though.

It is not necessary to book a car ahead.
You can do it by a local travel agency when you are in Udaipur, mostly you get a better rate than through an company with on-line services.
Besides you are in a stronger position to get an English speaking driver.

Innova AC is around 11-12 per km.

Check makemytrip or at IRCTC site..

It should not be more than 20000 in any case..
