Agra-Gwalior-Orchha by taxi?

How is the road from Agra to Gwalior and then on to Orchha? It looks as if Agra-Gwalior takes about 1.3-2 hrs by train and Gwalior-Jhansi is a little over an hour.
Would it makes sense to hire a taxi in Agra to go to Gwalior, see the fort, then go on to Orchha the same day? How much time would the driving take? How long might we want to spend at the fort? How much would it cost? I like the flexability this would give us compared to deciding now which trains to book.

I've not travelled from Agra to Gwalior by road but from Gwalior to Orchha is not too good as the roads in Uttar and Madhya Pradesh are pretty bad. You can very easily do both these sectors by a hired car / taxi and I am sure you will love Orchha very much. The fort at Jhansi and the museum too is worth seeing before you reach Orchha. Stay at Jehangir's Sheesh Mahal Palace Hotel in Orchha if you want to stay in a royal residence!!!
