What music / instrument do you play?

I have been thinking about this thread for a long time - we have had them all - what's your job, the weather, how old are you, etc etc etc....

But this is a chance to let us know about your musical talents without being put totally on the spot and being asked to play on-line. That will come one day but not right now. So I'll start off: -

I sing and play guitar in a group called Celtic Connections. We are more a traditional session than a group. I also join in a band called Rose 'n' Thorns here in Adelaide when they play an accoustic gig.

I also play fiddle, bodhran, and whistle., mostly traditional celtic music from the British Isles / Canada...

So come and join the Indiamike band and tell us what you can play???? Can you play Indian music?

I play or play around with the Tabla, but I don't have much rhythm in me.

Well, I'm very near the celtic region of Canada - love that music and love all the India sounds and vibes .... but they always give me a dull pair of spoons and send me off to a far away corner at any ceilidh .... in other words nada.

I make a living at the piano,

but I do a little bass and some odd woodwinds as well.

I have a passion for collecting instruments from around the world and am looking forward to the day I can add a sitar to my collection. I have always been intrigued by Indian raga music as it's so similar to jazz, yet completely unrelated.

Drums. I love percussion. Give me anything, and I'll bang away at it.

I play piano (self-taught), have an acoustic guitar (still to learn), sing - learned some Carnatic music, currently learning Hindustani, and sing some pop & little of Russian folk. I got so excited the other day, when my Hindustani music teacher was showing me how to play the tabla...WOW!!!!!!! is not even close to how I felt/feel!

I'm also a learner of acoustic guitar - My Mother has played most of my life so you would think that when my mother asked me if i wanted to play when i was young i would say 'yes'? WRONG - i rebelled instead cos i didn't want to do what she did! I actually would get embarrassed bringing friends home when i started high school as she would be playing and singing 'streets of london' in the kitchen all the time. Now i adore hearing her play - and now i really REALLY wish i had been taught when i was younger - the look on her face when i asked her to buy my one for my 30'th birthday - she was sooooooooo pleased Now a good mate 'Billy Bob' teaches me in exchange for yoga classes.

I don't sound good at all but i don't care as i enjoy it.

Rab - you must let me know when you play next so i can come and watch

I could be wrong, but do you mean Chori Chori Gori Se - Udit Narayan from the Guru soundtrack??

I think it came from the Hindi movie, Mela...and I believe it's "aaja aaja aaja aaja aaja aaja aa..."

I know how to play the sitar, mainly due to my mom thrusting it in my hands every morning ... and still a novice in playing the violin, I shall get there someday!

Pillimosan,
I noticed you have a picture of Eric Dolphy. Are you a jazzer?
