One question to all you experienced India travellers (and movie buffs), if you have seen Paheli, you may be able to help me...

In the beginning of the film when the bride-to-be was travelling to her groom's home, they stopped at a "haunted" stepwell, where in Rajastan is that?!?!?!?! I'm going to Rajastan (finally!!!) this December and would love to go there for a film pilgrimage

As you can tell, I love that film, and if you know of any other sights that were included in that film, please enlighten me! My intended itinerary for that part is: Bikaner, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Udaipur and Jaipur.

burbujasdeamor....I'm also a big Paheli fan! I travelled around Rajasthan (to all the cities you've mentioned) after seeing the movie: saw lots of tanks but none exactly like that....

I think you should start a new thread about Paheli though, I bet you'd find someone on IM who knows or can tell you how to find out where it was filmed.

I for one would like to know if the actors in Paheli were wearing REAL jewels...it looked like it.

I believe they were, because there was a tie-up with a big Indian jewelry company to design and sell the jewelry that was promoted by its use in the film. At the beginning of the film it says "Jewelry designed by Tanishq Design Studio." It was beautiful!

Thanks so much for your stepwell "tour"! I looked at the photo in widipedia and it must have been taken from a different angle or level, because it doesn't look like this scene in the movie. Ha Ha not that I'm doubting you Of course, neither is the blue bird included in the real stepwell. I will have to refrain from singing and swirling once I get there

As for the jewelry, they sure are gorgeous! Doubt if I could afford anything though, except for a small set of bangles, maybe from the travelling bangle salesman

i visited there long ago as a child.

even if this is not the place you want, its worth a visit. just google "abhaneri" and see

That does look more like the stepwell near the beginning of the movie. I'm wondering if maybe the other one I found was used later, during the "Laaga Re" song...???

ETA: Yes, that's definitely the same one. They're dancing all over it, even in the tower in the center.

I just searched other posts on Rajastan and apparently, the whole film was filmed in the Abhaneri and Shekhawati area. Well, looks like back to the itinerary planning for me to include that area Not that it's going to "kill" my plan anyhow.

Paheli is one of my fav movies too... Don't know exactly about that place with the stepwell - but the locations in imdb for this film is:

I guess the paheli (riddle) for us is if we can find all the sites It's going to be like a treasure hunt for grown-ups (in age only!)

Maybe we should start our own cult - a reunion of us Paheli fans at the stepwell. I'm going to be there in early December! 3 long months till then...

Oh, since I have caught the attention of all you Indian film geniuses, can you recommend more films with great scenery (like Paheli) for us to get us even more excited about the upcoming trip??

My husband said if I get more excited, I'm going to have a heart attack before December

If all else failed, I'll just keep watching Lagaan and Paheli over and over again

dor was really good - and i was surprised by how well both the lead actresses did (besides the scenery et al). another great movie for some outdoorsy footage and also the typical "toxic" (in a great way) levels of bollywood song-and-dance routines is HUM SAATH SAATH HAIN... very typical rajashree productions type movie but i love the set and dresses, jewellery - and all the frills
