What is your favorite Indian movie?
I've been watching movies featuring India and/or Indians for inspiration since I will be going to India soon. So far I really like Monsoon Wedding, The Guru and Fire. Anybody have suggestions on movies to watch? What is your favorite movie featuring India and/or Indians (both Bollywood or non-Bollywood)?

Favorite Indian movie
I 've seen Monsoon Wedding 4 times and I still love it! Each time I have another favorite part. This afternoon I watched "Mr. and Mrs. Yver" with an Indian friend - we were both close to tears at the end.

Loved Monsoon Wedding. I also like Deepa Mehta's movies: Earth; Fire; Water recently premiered at the Toronto Film Festival.
Bollywood movies: I really love Dil Chahta Hai. It's a really different story; acting is superb and the music is phenomenal. Not a Bollywood movie in the traditional sense - it's different. |

I finally saw Salaam Bombay for the first time the other day. Thinking of other movies I've seen featuring Indians are Bandit Queen, City of Joy, Missisippi Masala and Kama Sutra (the Mira Nair version, not the American low-budget one), which I really liked. I haven't seen a lot of Bollywood films but I remember one that I saw a long time ago in an Indian-owned theatre called "Dil Te Pagal Hai". I'm looking forward to seeing one when I go to India (in just a few more weeks!)

I saw two movies in the Montreal film festival this year: one was a documentary on a cult in Bangladesh - Bishwsher Rong(color of faith) and the other one an Indian movie- Devaki.
The first movie was so so, but I liked devaki. if you happen to see it playing somewhere, go for it, it is worth it. I like all Indian moview, but i have to be in the mood for them. I cannot watch them all the time though... ![]() |

If you happen to be in Tamil Nadu do try and get to see Anniyan. OK, its weird and stretches credibility, but a great film nonetheless.
