We have family friends and neighbours from Bombay, who's son in law turned out to be a pretty huge star/actor in the 80's till now, and recently his daughter too. Our neighbourhood had quite a few 'stars' living there as well.
The flip side of this was that anybody we knew who came to Bombay on a holiday wanted to see a film shoot, and I (in college and later) was forced to take them around studios and outdoor locations. After one or two such trips, I found hanging around studio parking lots smoking beedis with the other drivers (because that was what I was, essentially) far more interesting than watching boring and repetitive shoots inside. But the most interesting thing was a lady who used to call up our number and insist on speaking to Shashi Kapoor (an actor and a neighbour).. my sister and I had a great time, me pretending to be him on the phone.

Yep, but he wasn't big then, so the shoots were often other actors.
It doesnt really matter who is shooting what. I found it boring anyway. |

The Assasination of Jessie James with Brad Pit, Shall we Dance with Richard Gere and a couple others I can't remember were fun cause you can see our own streets. For some reason Hollywood really likes little Winnipeg. The stars don't get bugged much here I guess, our dollar was lower so it was cheap to film, and we are a bit 'heritage' crazy so many streets are easily adjusted to look well over 100 or so years old. (bye bye parking meter for the week) And then you can go to the ultra modern buildings for a different look.
But some of my fav movies to watch are where I have been. LOVE movies with Las Vegas scenery and now I'm sure I'm going to be on the lookout for Mumbai and Delhi backgrounds!!! We did manage to stumble on two Bollywood shoots while in Mumbai...one in Bandra and one at the Kanheri Buddhist caves. The Kanheri one I had mixed feelings about. Didn't see any stars that I knew at either shoot but boy were they loud! Made for a less peaceful experience. Kim
