Vinyl records...
Anyone here interested in collecting them? Or just anyone who happens to have some...?
I've been listening to my dad's LPs recently. Now I'm planning to make a trip to the Old Delhi market where they apparently sell old books/records etc on Sundays. Anyone been there? Discuss your like/hatred/indifference towards records here. (currently playing Uriah Heep's "Salisbury" on vinyl...) |

GxMx: Hahaha. Holy crap. This is Vile E here.
Nick: Well, I am interested in peoples' experiences buying/hunting for vinyl here, so in that sense it is India-related. But some amount of general discussion shouldn't be a problem, right...? |

I have tons of vinyl. Just cranked Uriah Heep Sweet Freedom not long ago. Actually some old 70's Hindi Pop would be cool to bring back, as would some of that weird electric sitar pop stuff they play as muzac in restaurants. Anyone know any groovy Indo funk pop artists to look out for?

Oh... if it's about shopping here in India, of course, then I'd be the last person to object!

just thought I'd add a bit...
Shop no. 256 in Meena Bazaar is probably the most well known record-seller around. Do a search for it and you'll get a few articles with some interesting history etc. Anyway, I made a trip there a while ago. Now apparently most of stuff is in a warehouse somewhere. Most of the stuff in his shop is mostly in below-average shape. He'll take you to the warehouse only if you're a "serious" buyer, which I am not. The vinyls in his shop are priced at Rs. 100, 200 and 300 according to condition, the warehouse stuff he says is all 500+. I got suckered, really. Ended up buying 5 records for 1100 bucks, which was about...hmm, thrice as much as I could get em for on ebay. Anyway, go here only if you're seriously into collecting, cause you might find something worthwhile in his warehouse. Otherwise... not worth it. |
