Vastu Shastra

Hi All,

I'm reading two books on Vastu Shastra which are EXCELLENT reads. For those that don't know, Vastu Shastra is the science of archtecture and energy balance based upon the vedas...I am told it is the system that Feng Shui came from...

These books are by the same people and aren't the traditional: 'tear down a wall and move your kitchen to the other end of your house' books, but more about how to use yantras, mantras, altars and other items to balance out the energy in your home.

Here are the links:

http://balancedbookspub.com/vastubook.htm
http://balancedbookspub.com/altarbook.htm

Does anyone have any other recommendations for books on Vastu Shastra? Also, where can I find this sytem used in India? Is it still in practice?

Thanks!

Linguistic Off Topic....

Did you really mean whet their home plans ?

If so I'm interested in seeing the use of a word seldom used in UK these days, meaning to sharpen (as on a whetstone, mistakenly believed by many to be a wetstone!).

Quite apart from some of the amusing ones listed in IM, Indian english has some real curios.... like I'm amazed whenever my Tamil wife says, "Wait on" as I'd only expect that fromn an elderly Yorkshireman!

Of course it might have been a typo for vet... in which case I'm disapointed!

Vastu shastra is all about ventilation - movement of air and light into the house, and about the positions of source of water, and the drainage.

It gets very complex though. Sometimes, it may not be possible to do a home that complies to vastu shastra - 100 %

It also talks about in what place and direction, heavy object like cupboard should be kept, and in which place the mirror should be kept etc.

there are some ppl i know who have customised their homes and offices as per vastu shastra. these people made a certain amount of progress with respect to their careers, wealth etc here in mumbai. i cant say if the progress these ppl made was becoz of vastu or becoz of their own fate, but their progress in all walks of life was quite visible after they made changes with respect to vastu shastra. looking at their example, i decided to give it a shot too ( my house was anyway due for renovation)thinking, i'll get some lottery. i contacted a vastu consultant and he came over suggesting some drastic changes like -
changing the direction of the main door of my house for which we had to give a lot of thought. we wre like if fate is not in our hands atleast vastu is. so why not? lets see how it goes.
even changing the direction of the w/c in the bathroom.it would now need to face the north.
things like tht. some places where we cannot make changes as ours is an old building on marine drive, he suggested we should add some cosmetic remedies.

my house is currently under renovation, its surely going to be a new setup after all this. i've never believed in vastu but frm wht i hear its about creating positive energy thru the natural forces of the wind, sun, earth, rain. vastu is just trying to create a rather environment friendly atmosphere in the houses tht we live in. its making us feel the natural forces around us in a more positive way.the vastu guy explained to us wht changes should we make as per vastu and why we wre making these changes. as an amateur and in this fast forward life, we didnt think it was important, but the science of the energy surely made sense frm wht he was saying. we wre sceptical at first to give it a try, but looking at the ppl we personally knew who had gone ahead with it we did. lets seee how it goes frm now.

I was thinking along those lines Sorry it turned out to be on the wrong evidence!

The guy who wrote the books I linked to was the architect for the first Microsoft building. Well, his team at the time was...and they designed it according to Vastu Shastra. Could be fate!!! But it's kinda eerie.

If your karma account ["fate" is karma... i.e. what you have already made of yourself] is positive, the right persons will design your buildings; you will find the right doctors, the right astrologers and so on....

If your karma account is not so good, no amount of Vaastu Volumes and research or study will help. You will not get the right land, for example. You may [unknowingly] buy a land where a cruel murder has taken place. The cruel vibes DO affect the "resident".

There are some remedies. Of course! They work to a limited extent.

I was a Vaastu consultant-practitioner 15 years ago..... now I have realized its severe limitations.

There are thousands parading as "vaastu" consultants. Most of them bogus. They have only some bookish knowledge at the most.

There is at least one physically verifiable test for a "good" consultant.

The person should be able to pin point an underground water source; and should be able to tell at what depth and pumping pressure will the water flow out.... and for how many months in a year. This one thing ALONE makes or breaks a farmer/landowner in India.

Even good water diviners can do this, but it is a sort of test for anyone claiming to be a Vaastu consultant. If it is proved on a piece of land where ohers have failed to find water.... so much the better.

Vaastu consultants should at least be able to spot negative vibes or the so-called "ghosts" in the proximity. The good one should be able to "drive away" this negativity as well. A pure hearted person [a saint] can do this by mere willing. Vaastu consultants usually use "mantras".

Then again, this "ghost" thingy is unverifiable by physical means.

Water spouting out from an underground bore is extremely verifiable... and a very physical and happy moment, although not necessarily a "certificate".

Today, Vaastu has caught everyone's fancy....

Thanks for that little news snippet, Daiva Nata...... I didn't know that Bill Gates' office building was designed with Vaastu principles in mind.

I don't think Bill Gates hired them keeping "Vaastu" knowledge in mind... or that he may really know something about Vaastu.

Its his good karma .... and its there for ALL of us to see....

Yeah...

I don't think Bill knew he was hiring a Vastu architect either...he just happened to do so. Funny how fate steps in. There is such a fine line between karma and intentional creation.

Still learning about that one!

Thanks for sharing all. I love learning about this science and art of placement. I do fully recommend the books above (http://www.balancedbookspub.com) for those of you who cannot afford to rip your house apart and reconstruct it, but rather, are looking for something that is based on the vedas...sacred geometry, altars, color, yantra, mantra, elements, gratitude...to help create sacred space and flow in the home. I love it sooo much more than Feng Shui!

Really getting into the creation of altars....just made a new Saraswati one. Gorgeous! I feel more creative already!
