UK TV - Mumbai Calling Sit-com
Has anyone seen this?
I've never heard of it before but my media center has decided to record it tonight. Anyone seen it?

This one? Never heard of it - apparently (according to the above) the 2007 pilot sank quietly. |

I love Sanjeev Bhaskar and Nitin Ganatra; even though the pilot didn't exactly raise the roof, Sanjeev is a good comedy writer and it might even inspire me to switch my TV on for the first time this year.

Sanjeev Bhaskar and Nitin Ganatra have made some great TV, but I don't think this one quite makes it.

It's being shown in Australia (ABC network; Tuesday 9,30pm). It has patches of insightful comic irony, dulled by too many clicheed situations.
The 2 episodes shown so far had about 10 minutes of funny material in total. |

Strangely one of the guys in it seemed to be creating himself the catchphrase "isn't it" but that's Welsh isn't it, not Indian, bizarre. I can't find any repeat plays scheduled over the next couple of weeks but it is on ITV.com's player, although I couldn't get it to work in IE or Firefox. |

It was funny in bits. About as funny as The Kumars I 'spose, certainly better than a lot of other dross from the BBC.
There was a really funny bit about his boss arriving from Britain, and she's taken for a ride by the rickshaw driver.

I was trying to work out if it was made for a British (or British Asian) or Indian audience, but for one joke, I would have been sure it was for an Indian audience.
The "In It" bit at the end of an announcement was purely British Asian. I never really got into it, and thought the Kumars was much better, but that was made purely for a British audience, mainly British Asians. |

caught it on HBO yesterday. I liked it. Missed the beginning of the first episode but it was funny overall.
