Ragam Tanam Pallavi - Ragam Dharmavati [Carnatic]
U Srinivas [Mandolin] with Ustad Sultan Khan [Sarangi]
Accompanists: Murugabhoopathy [Mridangam], Hanif Khan [Tabla], ?? [Tambura]
Album: Sahavaadhan

more on jugalbandi's...or should i say fusion?...i chanced upon this in musicindiaonline...since it seemed a interesting combination...the mandolin and the sarangi~ mandolin, a western import into the carnatic genre, sarangi from the hindustani genre....

ragam tanam pallavi on a particular raag (or raga) is when an artist takes one raag and elaborates on it..in depth, range, speeds, moods...here the two instruments weave back and forth developing this carnatic raag. the upbeat mandolin with a sombre sarangi...funky funky funky....

these two performed together in The Hindu Music Festival in Nov 2005..a review of which is posted here....anybody have the CD of this concert?....

album:- give up
the postal service

beautiful mellow poptronica, cool beats...and nice lyrics. the whole album is a recommendation.
'the district sleeps tonite' and 'we will become silhouettes' are personal favorites......

the front man (ben gibbard) of this 'band' is the same one in another very popular group at the moment called 'death cab for cutie'

Tonight it's Gharana Banaras with PT. RAJAN SAJAN MISHRA (Gavati & Bhairavi)
heavenly!!!
esp. loved the "Bhavani Dayani"
how appropriate during this festive time of Dassera. People are still celebrating the festival with Durga/Kali Visarjans. Gorgeous idols!
