go see them!

I saw Funkadesi over the weekend and they are awesome! They rocked the house!

The female lead singer is Tamil, and they sing songs in Punjabi, Hindi, and Tamil. A total mix of musical styles and nationalities. The tabla player is great and he studied with Pandit Samar Saha, Ustaad Zakir Hussain, Pt. Shyam Kane, and Ut. Arshid Sayed.

Buy their CDs, you won't regret it (and I get no money for this plug!)

Live And Let Live

Oh, the snot has caked against my pants
It has turned into crystal
There's a bluebird sitting on a branch
I guess I'll take my pistol
I've got it in my hand
Because he's on my land

And so the story ended
Do you know it oh so well
Well should you need I'll tell you
The end-end-end-end-end-end-end-end
And...

Yes I've seen you sitting on the couch
I recognize your artillery
I have seen you many times before
Once when I was an Indian
And I was on my land
Why can't you understand

Served my time
Served it well
You made my soul

Write the rules
In the sky
But ask your leaders
Why Why

Oh, the snot has caked against my pants
It has turned into crystal
There's a bluebird sitting on a branch
I guess I'll take my pistol
I've got it in my hand
Because he's on my land

And so the story ended
Do you know it oh so well
Well should you need I'll tell you
The end-end-end-end-end-end-end-end
And...

Served my time
Served it well
You made my soul

Sri Venkatesa Suprabathams
Raga - Pantuvarali
Album:- Suprabathams
MS Subbulakshmi

suprabathams as the name translates from sanskrit means hymns for early morning. these hymns are sung to 'wake' the lord ..one of the main ones here, the sri venkatesa suprabatham, is on lord balaji of tirupati. it has not been dated when this was written but wouldnt be surprised if it was some BC century...

ms subbulakshmi renditions of suprabathams are present in many of the south indian households..chantings, its a staple in the early mornings and the tape usually would turn on at 4:30am or so across many houses..sign of the dawn was MS's suprabathams blaring~ ..., you will find this recited in some form in almost all of the vaishnava temples in the south.

here's a related article on how this CD/Tape is a bestseller...
Subbulakshmi's voice still bestseller for Saregama
