Talking NYC in the house - KEEP IT REAL

'Like a kick in the ass...'

That was pretty funny. I think he handled it better than a lot of people I've seen- living in Jaipur for 6 months lets you see plenty of tourist conniptions!

Cameragirl - if you'd like to see how a different New Yorker (that's me) handles India, check the videos on my site!

Also thanx for the tip; did not know about lonelyplanet.tv!

Sorry for being rude. It was an inspiring video.
I don't think everyone will take to India the same way. Everyone is intitled to their opinion and India tends to bring out the critics and the lovers alike equally. ("as we hear alot you either love or hate india")

But why why bhai saab, must you make a mention about the USA in your argument? Everyone isnt going to love maa India(and why should they?), so I think a little less defensiveness is on order. People who love India will continue to do so. Also why is it every critique of India is ALWAYS accompained by a retort about the USA? "inner city areas blah blah" We arent talking about the USA here this is Indiamike! Its common thing I noticed about people from my ancestoral land. What they don't realize is their point ends up looking like a "angry child" instead of being effective.

I tend to fall in category of I love and hate India (some aspects)at the same time. My beef with this particular piece is it is supposed to be funny. How is showing poverty funny?

India is not about poverty tourism.

Also in the first piece, he was irritated at a guy who was trying to help him! First piece was funny by the way. It shows typical american tourist without a clue!

Came back to this thread because I wanted to post the link to the second video.

I like it even better than the first one. I think it does really inspire! See for yourself:

Well, here is a less controversial video, I think- it's about all those women who carry loads on their heads in India, and an israeli traveler who decides to see for herself how heavy the loads are

You're right- he's in rishikesh, actually, but the train that he didn't get was from haridwar.

Thanks for sharing that, it has it all: vendors, hijras, performing artists, beggars, cleaning boys and curious onlookers.

It's strange sitting here in my sterile office watching that. I was the traveller just a while ago! Btw, he doesn't seem unhappy to me, just a relaxed type of fellow.

Well, there is some progression in the story- he was unhappy in part 1!

But he is shown eating his biriani with his left hand (or at least licking his fingers after)!

Thanks for the second part. Seems he was doing much better.

I'd like to be on that train.

My thoughts exactly. I'm looking forward to the future adventures of Ramon, and predict he ends up in like if not love.
