So, cameragirl, did your fellow get to like India, or was that one trip enough for him?

I'll be judgemental. I'm sorry if it rubs you or he the wrong way.

He appeared like a child, holding his glass half empty screaming the words, "There's no place like home". Attitude maketh the man or woman, especially in India(I haven't even been yet, 102 days!). I really dislike quoting but as I just read this this morning I figure I shall add it in for good measure. From James Allen:

"Mind is the Master power that moulds and makes,
And Man is Mind, and evermore he takes
The tool of thought, and shaping what he wills,
Brings forth a thousand joys, a thousand ills:-
He thinks in secret, and it comes to pass:
Environment is but his looking-glass."

He expressed at one point that god seemed absent from the place. If he took the time to observe the way that some Indians hold themselves in spite of great adversity he would see that this is far from the case.

To use his own words, it seemed like he needed the kick in the ass. I hope he managed to grow a little from the experience.

I know I'm coming across a bit harsh in my response here. I'm certainly lacking in Indian travel experience. I also realise that I'm putting forth a judgement based on a very short video and that this is but a small window of the man whom you refer to and his experiences. So for that I apologise.

Jon

Yeah, I guess it's funny - if you like hearing someone complain and moan.

Has this ill-mannered chap ever taken a stroll in the Inner City areas in the USA? Maybe the next video can be on that. And we'll wonder where are the cowboys and buffaloes and beautiful lifestyles we'd always associated with the USA?

Sorry for being rude. It was an inspiring video.

Ignorant, irritating American moans endlessly to camera because India isn't like it is in the picture books.

It's a kind of interesting look at how India would appear to someone who's done no research.

It would be interesting to see a video of the same person a few weeks into the trip.

Some of his comments reflect his lack of knowledge about India, but I think they're innocent enough and just someone saying what comes into his head, I don't think we should be offended by the comments.

I've never been a fan of any religion, and when I first saw slums in Chennai (on my first trip) I patted myself on the back as I'd now seen that religion hadn't helped these people, but it wasn't long before I was talking to the same people and realising that religion is helping them and that they're better, happier people for it.

When I think back to a lot of my first impressions of India, I have to laugh at myself, but they still happened, I still thought all sorts of strange things, I thought I was in constant danger of being mugged or murdered, I thought everyone was trying to con me, and I still thought that everybody living in those slums were unhappy and just wanted someone to rescue them, that someone being me.

I couldn’t have been more wrong.

The train station appears to be New Delhi.

Oh, please. Anyone who has dealt with Indian railways can relate to this videoclip to some extent. The guys working at the ticket counter can be rather difficult to make contact with at times. If you don't know what you're doing, you can be greeted by a wall of silence. And that sign coming up about the computer not working is funny and very familiar.

Throughout the dude remains very calm, doesn't lose his cool once. Is he stoned?

The bit about expecting belly dancers and tigers doesn't make a very good impression, though...

It's possibly scripted to some extent (despite her first post - when she was looking for volunteers - saying it would not be). I thought it was well filmed though, and faintly amusing.

Here's another video (also by cameragirlinc), which shows a better subject (an Israeli girl)... http://www.lonelyplanet.tv/Clip.aspx...A09868789EBE62

She seems cool about everything. I like both clips. They remind me of the stuff you encounter almost everyday while trying to get from point A to point B.

(PS. I'm glad no one filmed me in India... )
