Thumbs up the missing link

Charles Darwin devoted his life to find out all he could about the missing link – namely, the link between the chimps and humans. Our film folks are continuously presenting to us ways and means of establishing identities through missing links that surface in the most innocent of circumstances and in the most unlikely of places. The reason is because, a majority of our successful story lines revolve around the missing child, the child goes missing in the village fair or in the long distance train or on a street corner. And, the missing link is usually a necklace or a bracelet or a birthmark. It is strange that even after more than fifty years of experience in such matters we still lap up these tales without batting an eyelid. The young one who gets separated from his family always has a letter in his pocket that he carries with him through thick and thin. Or, there is this necklace that he wears around his neck, the necklace can be snapped open – inside, on each panel are photographs of his mother and father. Or – the villain wears a bracelet whose design is etched permanently in the mind of the boy. When he sees it in his dreams, he wakes up in a cold sweat. Suddenly, one fine day, he sees it in real life and realizes that his so-called well wisher is the one who killed his parents and who is responsible for his present miserable condition.

Our Bollywood movies are replete with coincidences of this nature. And, taking their cue from proven modules, Tollywood and Mollywood follows suit.

Talking of coincidences, in moviedom, the world is indeed a very tiny place because, in case of an accident, the victim is rushed to a hospital where the complete cast turns up by rotation – as if that is the only hospital in the world! Similarly, there is only one college where the hero, the heroine and the villain pursue their studies in the midst of singing and dancing in corridors and lawns, some even do it in the gym. The school is, you are right, financed by the local political leader. And, to continue the series of coincidences, there is only one hotel where the hero goes and where the heroine also wanders in to find the hero chatting up another girl.

There are amny missing pieces of puzzles in public life.

Someone recently suggested that to understand the attitude of our new cricket coach to our ex-captain, one needs to understand the dynamics between some of our cricket administrators cum politicians cum businessmen, which includes the father of the southpaw. That's where apparently lies the answer to the puzzle - not in his performance on the field or in training sessions.

I think it's simply a rumour.

Or the real mother breaks down & start the line that 20 years back on a stormy night the car broke down in the midst of nowhere & how circumstances made the hero a child then get separated from his twin brother(the villain)......
