Globe Trekker might be what you're looking for. It's a well-done series that airs in the US on PBS. They have 4 India episodes (North, South, East and West) available individually or in a box set, and some other episodes on trekking, festivals, etc.

while I cannot recollect any series, I would suggest the National Geographic 'Tiger' wildlife video, the one shot in Ranthambore.

Excellent and awesome.

I just watched the Pilot guide series. They are great! Informative with really nice images. I liked how they didn't try gloss over unpleasant things that happened during their trips. This made it feel more real and less like a travel brochure.

But I have to say I found the host for the east India chapter really annoying.
