Sufi Soul.

The above programme was shown in the U.K. in 2005 and presented by author William Dalrymple. Does anyone know where I can obtain a copy??

It appears to be for sale from this vendor. Although you have to login in to get a price. It looks good, Best of luck .... and post a cost on this thread should it be available.

I have a double CD collection of that title, it's good, esp. as an introduction.

No idea if the two are related though.

I have a collection of field recordings in the field, would have to look up the title though, can't find it in a jiffy.

I sent William Dalrymple an e-mail. He forwarded me the directors e-mail address in the UK who is trying to get Sufi Soul made into a DVD for commercial sale. I'll add further posts as soon as I hear anything.

Does'nt look like anything coming off soon. Said he would e-mail if anything changes in the near future. Best thing would be if it was repeated on Channel 4 or someone uploaded it too you tube.

Very short. But interesting footage and commentary from William, some nice music in Lahore, and Nizamuddin, Delhi.

All in all a good taster.

Thanks for link.

Completely forgot about this; the series for what it's worth is called Music in the World of Islam. Not just Sufi music, but it's very interesting.

That other music CD I mentioned btw: Sufi Soul.

Visit the Dargah of Baba Nizamuddin in Delhi on Thursday evenings for Sufi music. Ladies are required to cover their heads so carry a chunni or a scarf.
After the music go to Aap ki khatir for melt in the mouth Galauti kababs.

Found this link while browsing. It is giving on air dates very soon - 22 and 26 April. Some good Nusrat footage through it if I recall.

Sufism: The Soul of Islam presented by William Dalrymple.

Sailaway, nice film. I was able to visit the night performance in Lahore last year (Thursday nights I believe)I wonder how he was able to film, they are very much against any photos, let alone film. Still, it was one of my highlights in Pakistan. Everybody smoking charras and chanting "Ash hadu anla ila ha illallah" (there is only one God?) - It remained in my head for days afterwards.
