johhny depp is a god. he might not have the physical appearance of Linbaba, but he will adapt to the character no worries, cant wait for the movie. I wander who prabaker will be played by? I always had the image of a Ghandi lookalike in my head

I loved Roland Joffé's direction & the camera work, angles & scene selection in 'City of Joy'. The movie was average in overall ratings but that India-deja vu feeling was omnipresent, for me, throughtout the entire film and his (Joffe's) scouting & due diligence in the months leading upto production was evident in the end product. I hope Shantaram has that same sort of cinemagic.

Worries me about seeing this project then as City of Joy was such a lame book that it made me think Zane Grey with cloying pity..

Daniel Day Lewis would be P E R F E C T to play the lead in Shantaram - no one would be better. He is intense, powerful looking, a fabulous actor, and rough looking enough to be believable. Unfortunately it looks like we're going to get Depp, who although a great actor, is too small, handsome and delicate (not to mention dark - isn't Lin meant to be blond???) to cut it - hrrrrmmmmpppphhhhh!

Now apparently Johnny Depp isn't in this film. Is this film ever gonna see the light of day? I've HEARD that film is yet again being shifted later to January 2009 and maybe a late release in 2009. But who knows?

I read somewhere that Irfan Khan was being considered for the role of Prabaker.

Imdb.com now has Shantaram listed for release in 2011, so it doesn't look as if we'll see it any time soon.
