Shalimar the clown - I met Salman Rushdie

So, I have just got home. This evening I was at the book launch of Salman Rushdie's book "Shalimar the Clown".

After a few free beers managed to pluck the courage to approach Mr Rushdie and ask him to sign my copy of newly bought book.
I said to him "'Midnights Children' is one of my favourite books" and he replied "I hope you like this one too".

And my wife was ready at hand with a camera so not only do I have a signed copy of his latest book but also a couple of photos of the 2 of us.

And not only that but a few free drinks so this message is taking such a long time to type especially when correcting spelling. Anyway, I am so happy.

Pictures will have to wait. Too drunk to even think about that just at the moment.

Cheers!!

Hi Kiwi Razz,

Congratulations. I have admired first books from Shalman Rushdie, actually the only thing to admire is his beautiful wife. By the way, I've read this morning in the train from Kota to Delhi an amazing critic in "Outlook News Review" of the book, made by the writer Amit Chauduri. Was quite hard with the book and with Salman, but probably is only Jealousy.

Shall we start a thread on whether or not that dress should be worn in India?

Thumbs up rushdie misses the honours

'.....Controversy has erupted over the 24-hour-old, inexplicable, so-called 'literary award fatwa' imposed on Salman Rushdie, whose magnificent, multi-national, much-hyped, four-day-old novel on "iron mullahs" and a Kashmiri jihadi was left off the shortlist of the world's most prestigious, financially lucrative Man Booker literary prize.....'

I have little interest inh Salman Rushdie.

I wonder why I keep revisiting this thread?

When it goes to a second page I probably won't bother

Congratulations! well Done...

I had a similar experience, NOT, with Thor Hyerdhal (The Kontoki Expedition).

Went to his home in Oslo (when hitchhiking in Europe), knocked on the door, his housekeeper told us he was in Italy at his summer residence there!

So I have a nice picture of his front door house in Oslo...

Wow, that's great! I'm a big Rushdie fan myself, with Shame and Fury as my favourites.

Haha!

I once stayed half a year in a house close to his summer house, but I never met him. We used to feed the stray cats in the area in case they were his...
