Scared Sacred - Spectacular Film!
i just watched the film Scared Sacred per a recommendation from a friend. it is simply spectacular. the filmmaker did a brilliant job, in a beautifully haunting way. his camera work is stunning, adding a sense of mystique to the film.
The film opens in Bhopal, India, the cite of the disaster, and then explores other disaster sites around the world. Here's the website: http://scaredsacred.org/ and a trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GSx68p7ItDk

Scared Sacred is available on Netflix so I've put it on my queue. Might be a while, as I'm catching up on years of missed films!

the important message of the film is that the sacred is there, amongst the ruins, in the killing fields, in the hearts of those who have lost loved ones. that in the scared, we can still find the sacred. one of the most inspirational films i've seen! If you've not seen the film Pay it Forward you may want to add that to your queue too. Beautiful! i think that more than ever we need these sort of positive messages. |

I've watched the trailer, LB, and it's very powerful. I've posted about it on my blog. I'm going to buy the DVD -- the yoga studio where I teach hosts "movie nights", so I think this will be a good one for that....
thanks for letting us know about it! according to the SS website, the filmmaker has finished another film about spiritual activism: "Velcrow visited Mexico, New Zealand, Kenya, South Africa, India, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Siberia and South and North America. He met the Maori of Parihaka; Wangari Maathi, Founder of Kenya’s Green Belt Movement; Dr. Ariaratne founder of the Sarvodaya Movement in Sri Lanka; descendants of Ghandi in India; exiled Vietnamese Monk Thich Nhat Hanh, and Archbishop Desmond Tutu - to name but a few! Velcrow will show us how these individuals and their Spiritual Activism are transforming the world through powerful (but peaceful) personal, social, and political change. Uncovering the way of the Sacred Activist- uncompromisingly nonviolent, with a power that radiates from the heart and outwards." sounds like another great one.... |

I just saw the movie and was disappointed. While some of the interviews were intriguing, they were intercut with the filmaker's musings which was distracting. I only saw about 20 mins of it before I had to turn it off.

personally, i found that the director's narration added a soft glow to the film, a nice change from the typical journlistic style that is generally used in documentaries.
