Great poem you originally posted. Who is the author?

In my craving for ladoos, I ventured down to Little India here in Bangkok, then ventured into 'Sunny Videos' the best DVDwallahs in town. Picked up 7 more Ray movies that they had made copies of for me.

Aparajito
Apur Sansar
Ganasatru
Ashani Sanket
Seemabaddha
Jalsaghar
Abhijan

Would you like to attempt to rate them, Brishti?

I love Ray's movies. Most of them are terrible prints right now. I can't wait for Criterion to get on the ball and clean them up.

I've seen five of them if you count the Apu Trilogy as one. My uncle (who introduced me to Ray) watched some of his kids' movies recently. There are many of his films available in Khan Market in Delhi if anyone is looking.

Thanks for that. I had heard about this once. What a shame that the used books are all 50 bucks or more! Anyone have ideas where I can read them without paying so much?
How exciting to be in India with access to all these films and chatting with people who know about this stuff! Aside from the side debate about the lackey, this has been a helpful thread for me!

Unhappy Salute to Manikda

A Salute to Manikda...

I have almost all of his films now with me and these are my assets. The films when you will observe, each time will take you to different height and will give you a different meaning. Has anybody of you has seen "Pikuu"? Have you remembered the last dialogue? This is the outcome of Manikda.

One last thing to say - this is really sad to be thought of. In older times, the Bengali films were copied in other states, but now just the opposite is happening.

Piku was indeed made as a tele-film and was financed by France. The French authorities didn't even have a look at the script, Ray was given total freedom to choose a story, write the screen play and direct.

I have seen Sandeep's Felu da films. pretty good no doubt BUT...
Sandeep's Nishi japan(Spending the night) was screened a few years back in the Osian film fest, I liked it.

I have also seen Nishijapan. Liked it.
The movie "Hit List" I feel is the next from the director.
He has also made a documentary on Kishore Kumar which was released a few days ago. didn't had a chance yet to see it.
