Remember Shakti

Yesterday I have got the privilege to see John McLaughlin, Zakir Hussain and co. in Cartagena, near home.

The concert lasted two hours and for those who still "Remember
Shakti" and all these things was a great time.

Edsita, thanks for the schedule. Besides John and Zakhir Hussain, U.Shrinivas was playing electric mandolin, V. Selvaganesh played two characteristic drums: Kanjira and Ghatam
(it seems he belongs to the second generation playing Shakti) and Shankar Mahadevan sung northindian as well as carnatic songs.

The concert was really a succes and oddly John Mclaughlin tried not to be the leader.

m2, the CD are not that old. In fact I must look after my old cassete too, when it was just "Shakti". I'll try to upload some short video in the photogallery.

Cool, Jorge!

Hussain plays here pretty regularly, but I haven't seen anything about these concerts.

Last year, the festival "La mar de músicas" (Sea of musics) was dedicated to India.

We got there: Hariprasad Chaurasia, Nitin Sawhney, Trilok Gurtu, Zakir Hussain again with George Brooks, Bapi das Baul and Michael Nyman together with Rajan& Sajan Mishra and his Band. Others were also playing but I can't remember the names. Was really a great fortnight. Unfortunately to get up at seven in the morning after only four hours....everyday, was pretty hard.

saw Remembver Shakti at the Monterey Jazz Festival (!!!) last year. They sounded totally unorganized, like they hadn't precticed together hardly at all, but oh, that Shankar Mahadevan! I've been nuts over him ever since
