Ramayana & Mahabharat TV Series

Does anyone know where these can be either downloaded, rented, or purchased?

I understand the Mahabharat series was given English subs when it aired in the UK. Was the Ramayana series ever shown with English subs or dubs? This is important in both cases for me.

As always, thanks for any information!

Yes, you can buy it on DVD (maybe VCD too).

I have Mahabarat on DVD. Not cheap, though; seven or eight thousand rupees, I think.

I think the DVD was only recently available with English subs. I don't know about Ramayana.

This is the one, although obviously a product for USA in NTSC format, and half the price!

Mine doesn't say PAL on it, but India is, so I guess it must be. It does say Rs.8,500 inc taxes.

Can't help with Ramayana, though I think I've seen it in the shops. Maybe.

If you happen to visit Delhi, just visit Palika Bazaar...and its extension...

These sets are dirt cheap here and that is the reason every small time cable operator owns one..

You have to haggle hard and you will get a very good deal...start from 40% of what is mentioned on the original disc as the maximum retail price.

Bought mine from a big store: no bargaining.

But I have been looking for years for a set with English subtitles, and the told me that that had only just been released on DVD.

Burma Bazaar probably has cheap pirated copies, but maybe without the subtitles

I wont say to go for pirated copies as the original once don't seem to be very expensive to me...

There's a 15 hour version available on www.amazon.co.uk.

Cost is £51. -there's a list of other sellers as low as £21.

Reviewers say it's the same version as was shown on the BBC.

Main language is given as English but doesn't say whether the film is dubbed or has subtitles.(The BBC had subtitles)

It's Region 2 with none of that NTSC nonsense- though most euro-tv's and DVD's, including my own, show multiregion and either PAL OR NTSC.
Personally I prefer original language and subtitles.

There's no sign of the Ramayana-but it's a major yawn compared to Mahabharata so perhaps there is little demand.

Can you give a link to the item?

15 hours is not long enough. The TV series was 94 episodes long, each episode 20-30 minutes.

There was a massively cut-down VHS tape version available: you'd have to know the story pretty well to make sense of it.

It was not half hour telecast..I guess the 94 episodes are 1 hour telecasts...

That means that each episode is supposed to around 45 minutes.
