Percussion Jam?
My son loves percussion and has been lucky enough to watch and sometimes participate in street and club jams in various countries. It's among the things he loves best.
Does any such thing exist in Northern India or Kerala? We'll be traveling in March and have some flexibility. No, he's not an accomplished tabla player, but just enjoying others performing in a spontaneous environment is joy enough. Thanks |

Kerala is enormously rich in perforing arts, and percussion is high in the list. Mridangam and Ghatam (along with Kanjira and morsing) are the percussion instruments of Carntatic music, the classical music of Southern India.
More specific to Kerala are Chendar, Madalam, Edukka ...and lots of others! The music is very complex: joining in could be scary! Musicians will be delighted to see genuine interest --- too often they play for those (even locals) who just regard them as background. Do not take offence if they are not willing to let their instruments be touched: they are very personal, and often more fragile than they look. Wonderful stuff: enjoy!
