Online Library Resources
I have in vain been trying to find a good online catalogue for all books in English , published in India.
None found on the Indian National Library page. My regular booksellers (Vedams) page is good but does not cover many of the titles from Tibetan Works and Archives (LTWA is working on a online catalogue, but no launch date has been announced). Any suggestions ? |

well, good point there and there appears to be no list like that in the library of congress in usa.
however, try approaching the insdoc.org or insdoc.com or.. it is the indian scientific documentation centre. |

Thanks Archits ,
looks like a valuable source , esp. for scientific articles. Online cataloguing of books seems to lie in the distant future, though. Made a few searches on other national library bases with with unexpected results : Library of congress (http://loc.gov) permits search on publishing town. Dharamsala gave seven hits , including a tape of beer drinking songs. ![]() Dharamsala gave 136 hits in the British Library catalogue , which does not allow language as a parameter : two thirds appered to be in Tibetan only. Lastly, the Swedish database , which allows language but not publishing place in the medium advanced mode, gave 653 hits in Tibetan (mostly bi-lingual). |

I am sorry I am not being helpful here in a more direct way. Hoewver, the British Libraries in India and the American Libraries have great databases.
Do a search on American Information Resource Centre or just email the us embassy in India. Try penguin books in India , they may help you http://www.penguinbooksindia.com/ Finally, www.landmarkonthenet.com may have something for you. Good luck. |

Thanx again Archits.
Great stuff a couple of links away from these points , including Nalanda Digital Library everything from a good article on the original Nalanda to Perl scripts library searches. In between this a treasure of online travel litterature : Isabella Bishops Among the Tibetans (about Ladakh &Nubra), Blavatsky, Nansens Polar expedition... Americans might be interested in " America Through the Spectacles of an Oriental Diplomat" |
