NY Times Article about 'Ippudikku Rose'

Greetings, IMers!

My roomate sent me this news article today
about India's first Hijra talk show host:

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/20/wo...070&emc =eta1

Has anyone seen this show? What is the local reaction to this show?
I could only find a bit of a preview about her on youtube.

I don't think our cable operator will have this channel for us unfortunately. I guess she speaks in Tamil? There is a 'famous' trans-sexual person in Pakistan, she has been on TV here quite a bit, but I can't remember her name. Her show is more a comedy slant and is highly successful. Maybe Rose is going a bit along the same lines?

Hi Aishah -

Is it by any chance Begum Nawazish Ali? My friend once sent me a link to an interview between her and John Abraham (http://youtube.com/watch?v=Wro1xDRceHM).

How is the show generally accepted by the public where you live? Looks like she hosts some sort of late night show in Pakistan. We need some fabulous transgender personalities on the late shows here (in the states)- everything is so dreadfully boring

I couldn't see the show on your link, but saved it anyway because there looks like some other videos there I might watch later! I think this may be the same person - she does interviews with famous personalities, she's very talented and quick-witted. The one time Mr K saw her he was sort of bewildered, but he found the clip from the show interesting and funny just the same. I haven't heard of any other people here talking about it - it's a kind of non-event and maybe we might have been the only ones to have seen it. It was a news item I think on NDTV in a show talking about entertainment. But she's been on a few times since in one way or another, mainly as news items. Nothing like this your way Cardamom?
Australian 'famous' one who was an impersonator (he was a he, straight, in real life) is of course, Barry Humphries and his character 'Dame Edna Everage'. Dame Edna had a long running show of her own, might still be going, I'm not sure.
