Need the name of a book please

A while back I remember reading either a newspaper review or someones recommendation somewhere on a book, I think it may have been a novel or prehaps a biography. I think it was set out as letters being sent back home of an Indian living in the USA. What I read was quite amusing, I did make a note of it but cant find the note now!

My hubby's birthday is coming up soon and I would really like to try and buy this book for him.

Thanks

Julie

The closest book I can think of like this is Between Father and Son : Family Letters by V. S. Naipaul.

Amazon Link

But I am unsure if this is the one that you are thinking of.

Yeah, and what's the name of that book about the bearded guy who goes about in his bathrobe curing blind people and stuff?

Haven't read the book but I did see the movie many years ago. Wasn't it called "The Bathrobe" by Cecil B Demillions.

There was another desert wanderer I think, but I'm not saying any more as his followers, I believe, are lacking a sense of humour.

This thread is getting out of order. I really shouldn't post when I have had a few glasses of Aussie Red.

Are there any internet laws that cover this like "Pissed in charge of a mouse"? Oh **** is that the other word?

Unhappy Smilies - the thin end of the wedge

What's happened, Alan D?
At the weekend you discovered smilies, now you've gone from being a pillar of society to someone who invokes the **** censorship function on the board.

I think this shows beyond doubt that smilies in the hands of inexperienced users leads to a breakdown of the social fabric.

According to one recent report, smilies have been in use for exactly twenty years. In that short time, how many innocent lives have been trashed, how many mothers have seen their once proud sons and daughters (continued, p94...)...?

Legalise all drugs, ban smilies

What a cruel person you are! Just when I have discovered one of the simple pleasures of life ---- smilies, you want to ban them. I must admit I did O.D on them yesterday and I have decided to seek help and join Smilies Anonymous. The Aussie Red I can handle but these smilies are altogether much more insidious. I feel that I am already making a bit of progress.

Look, no smilies or *&!$£% ing

Found it ( I think)

Its called ~ Inscrutable Americans~ by Mather Anurag

The reviews at Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk were a little mixed and its not available in the UK either. My local libaries dont have it in, after spending all this time searching I HAVE to get it, so if anyone sees it on sale anywhere I would appreciate a nudge in the right direction.

ps. Ive tried the major book retailers in the UK.

Try these guys:

It's out of print, so it might get expensive. Alternatively, get somebody going to India soon to pick up a copy and mail it to you.

Hopelessly outdated answer to the original posting , I know, but could come in handy for others:

I use an Indian online bookstore frequently : Vedams Bookswww,vedamsbooks.com

They are prompt ( I have always received my orders in 7-8 days) , and hasslefree : prices are given in dollars and include airmail. Payment in all possible ways.

They did not have the title mentioned but another book by the same author in the same vein ( pocket, 10 $ )
