Nandan Nilekani's new book

Just saw an interview with Nandan Nilekani(formerly of Infosys), where he mentioned some very interesting things( see link below for full interview). While promoting his book 'Imagining India', he makes a few points that I found surprising:

a.) In his third question, he describes the uneven development occuring across North and South India..what he describes as the 2 'demographic dividend' curves... what do you think?

b.) Towards the end he mentions that the recent Election had over 700 Million voters, with 1.1 Million voting machines, and ALL were electronic... Is this accurate? If so, then India would truly be the first country to have a all electronic voting system.

a) not just north and south, there is a variation in progress between the east and west too. Dunno what demographic dividend he implies, but I see it as a source of friction and unrest in future, especially with the population of some Northern States increasing faster, besides their having a correspondingly heavier weightage at election time already.

b)I believe that is correct, though am not absolutely sure

and, my c) frankly, am getting a little fed up of the Infosys honchos trying to spread their influence and mantra everywhere.

Dividend Demographic,

talks about that Northern part of India (Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh etc) would start flourishing only after the south reaches sine kind of developed phase due to the the huge demographic differences in both regions both in terms of human capital development and population growth.

It makes sense, similar to that Eastern Europe today has more business/growth potential than Western.

Actually today, the southern states Of Andra, Karntaka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala account more than the north. It is the party that has won Andhra and Tamil Nadu the last 4-5 times that has (or helped) formed the government in the Center
