Music Festival in Bangalore.

Here is the Programme list of Sri Ramanavami Music Festival. I would be grateful if our Resident Music lovers ( Nick, Capt, ..) could post their recommendations on the concerts which are worth attending ( Nick, Please don't say that you would like attend all of them ).

Thanks,

I had hoped I might be able to say something like newbees see this guy, for the more serious see that guy...

But the choice is just too great. It's impossible. A friend of mine is playing violin for a couple of the concerts; several of the top mridangists are also accompanying. There are a good few names there I do not know, some of whom may be very great; there are lots of very senior artists that just never particularly did world tours or CDs.

If you tied me down to one it would have to be DR. M. BALAMURALIKRISHNA, as my all-time most favourite carnatic musician, but T. V. Gopalakrishnan comes a very close second. For a wonderful Hindustani evening, Parveen Sultana is ubeatable, and proceeded too by Ghatam Kartik for some percussion fun.

I'd want to see Nedanuri Krishnamurthy, because he's a very senior artist who I have never heard, not even on recording, and Neyvelli Santanagoplam is also a favourite of mine.

I'd take a newcomer to see Ganesh and Kumaresh, especially if they were a musician: their music is very accessable, but they will do very complex rhythmic combinations.

Heck... Just buy the season ticket and try not to take too many evenings off!

Just as I had feared, you have recommended the entire festival.

I have attended a Concert by Neyvellie Santhagopalan, good artist. I would have skipped the Ghatam concert from Karthik, but would now attend it.

Thanks,
