Bahut shukriya! I've been looking for this book for a while but all teh booksellers I've asked have told me this book has been out of print and unavailable for ages. I've jsut spoken to someone at DJPD and if I understood correctly then there should be a copy waiting for me when I go there this weekend!

the Muraqqa-e-Delhi is a contemporary account by Dargah Quli Khan of life in Mohammed Shah's Delhi. I don't know much about him but i snatched this off another website:

Muraqqa e Dehli – account of Delhi by Dargah Quli Khan from Deccan who visited Delhi from 1737-1741 [ Safdarjang’s time] as part of entourage of Safdarjang’s great rival Asaf Jah the first Nizam of Hyderabad. Gossipy book about dancers and courtesans. Most famous courtesan was Nur Bai.

It apparently has very good accounts of the contemporary music scene as it was listed and mentioned in many of the books I've read on the hsitory of Hindustani music.

Thanks beebah, sounds interesting. I love history specially chronicles by visitors where you find so much details about the real life, passion, art and all that. I will check out in the library or buy it.

it seems there was an Urdu translation published by Anjuman-i Taraqqi-i Urdu in New Delhi in 1993. Does anyone know where to ask about it?
