thanks!
checked out the site theon! just wanted to say thank you... it was a good and informative article... it's a good thing most of my dvd titles were there...(had a few misses like: dil ka rishta, asoka, and janasheen). Pretty much too commercial for my taste... but i did enjoy sholay and thought that it must have been so fun filming it... just a bunch of guys goofing off, making a movie production. heheheh. it had a lot of bad punches, bad edits... but hey... it was still fun over all.

another fine film is Baran. i think it is from Iran. it is a love story, and much more. i enjoyed it so much that after renting it a few times i found it online and purchased it. the sixth sense was quite a movie. finding nemo was really good. an american classic that always gives a tug on my imagination is It's a Wonderful Life. very old, but it makes you wonder how life would have been if things had happend differently. i have not viewed many indian films yet. lagaan, of course, was very good. it was one of the first indian movies i saw and i enjoyed it a lot.

just watched batman begins...
...off topic, I'm still at the edge of my seat when I last saw "batman begins " (directed by christopher nolan) two days ago. It shouldn't be missed. I think it's the best of the series... although I did like the first two batmans done by tim burton... But this one rocks. hope you guys back in india would be able to watch it. what's a good movie to watch back there (bollywood) now?

Had watched Shawshank Redemption few weeks past...
was good, but like rangss ... could find the same impression as some of my other friends suggested. Then week before last, Black Hawk Down. It was good too. Somehow there could be found a connection between BHD and 'Saving Private Ryan'. Last weekend, I watched 'Collateral'. There was a hint of Get Carter in it. Now, I am begining to think its not just Bollywood that makes remakes of existing movies. Can't wait for Batman Begins... Tsutaya here I come....

well.. in India, we are waiting with bated breath for "Paheli" a shahrukh starrer and the big thing is that it is being directed by Amol Palekar, known for his sensitive picturisation of movies. And the other movie is "Sarkar".. Amitabh and RamGopalVerma coming together for the first time for this indian take on "Godfather" ...sounds exciting... !!!!!

I saw "Closer" yesterday and couldnt stop marvelling at it. A wonderful story and wonderful characters with witty and lively dialogues.
I always wonder that the relationships that the movies like "closer" or "american beauty" depict, couldnt be the true picture of the west.. I mean I would anyday believe that their relationships are more like.. how they are shown in "First Daughter" or "Hitch" .. ![]() |

It's easy to watch films from Japan, Europe, etc. in Manila because of annual film festivals, but it's hard to find Indian films. The only Indian films I've seen are The Legend of Bhagat Singh (Ajay Devgan) and Yaadein. I saw them in Robinson's Galleria. There's a horror film coming out soon (I can't remember the title), so I'll catch it. Do you know where to get copies of Indian films here in Manila or a place where they show them? Thanks ![]() |

Just ask any bollywoody looking Indian in Manila...especially the ones that keep combing their hair in public. There's a few places that sell them and these are usually bootleg imports from Chungking Mansions in Hong Kong. You can also order over the internet direct from the HK guys. If you ladies like horror stuff you should watch Bhooth. I thought it was pretty good for an Indian flick. I just picked up Mangal Pandey today and it looks like someone stole a very good DVD grade copy from the studio. I hope to watch it this weekend and see if it really is a rip off of Gibsons "Patriot" which the media here claims.

Oldboy (Korean, I think) is one of the creepiest movies I have seen without resorting to the long-haired, pale-faced Asian woman crabwalking across the ceiling (or some varation thereof) that seems so popular with this genre.
Lagaan Water I recently saw Broken Flowers, the new Jim Jaramusch film with Bill Murray and really enjoyed it. |

Mangal Pandey
Can anyone in India tell me how Mangal Pandey is doing at the box office? Is it going to be as big as critics predict (the reviews genreally seem to be good)? And has anyone seen "Paheli"? Is the DVD worth buying?

Last week saw "A Thin Red Line" and was blown over by it.
The movie is shot beautifully and the dialogues are so poetic and awesome. I wonder why is it not famous !! It is not "another war movie" it will make you hate war. It shows the breathtaking locales which nature provides alongside the killings that man does during war. Every single shot has a story.... just plain beautiful. It has no villains and no hero. Its about people and war. Go watch it if you can. Its a classic. |
