Gifted

Chris Evans, usually an action hero, stars in this very touching story about an uncle who is raising his deceased sister's genius daughter. Powerful. The acting is great and the girl is a revelation.

Viceroy's house

Just got through watching this lovingly created film by Gurinder Chadha starring Hugh Bonneville, Gillian Anderson, Om Puri, Manish Dayal, etc. What a time this was! Lord Mountbatten returns to India tasked with handing over power to the Indians while trying to settle the issue of partition. What a thankless job, and what a setup he walked into. All the cards stacked against him. Each politician making their case for or against partition. A bankrupt Britain still trying to manipulate their 'possession' and remain relevant in the world's political agenda.

The film sets a love story between a Sikh man and Muslim woman against the background of the last days of the Raj. I must admit I wept through this, not only for the frustration of taboo love between mixed religions, but for the disaster of partition and its results. Are we not still victims of it?

As an outsider, I don't see what partition achieved except adding another division to the human storyline of creating more suffering. How can people allow a religion to separate themselves from another, from the common human struggle that we all share. I would love to hear from anyone who thinks that partition was a good and just thing to do. We are 70 years into its results. What are any of the positives from it?

Not many movie buffs here. You are posting the good ones. I was about to post "Viceroy's House" and you beat me to it. Keep posting.

“The Big Sick” is a hilarious comedy involving a Pakistani boy and an American girl. There were several movies of this kind but this one stands out. The title is a dead giveaway where one of the characters goes into coma; but the laughs don’t stop.

It is funny and smart and wise and silly, and is one of the best romantic comedies I have seen in a long time.

It's more the question of accessibility. I love watching movies, but cannot post anything here because there is no way I can watch anything other than mainstream or those playing on TV.
If you find my posts confrontationist, please bear, I am an old frustrated guy who has nothing better to do than sit on rocking chair and curse the world whole day

Shubh Mangal Savdhaan could have been an excellent movie however the latter part of the 2nd half does not do justice to the rest of the movie.

There are some excellent scenes. See an example from 1:36 to 1:55

However I liked the tamil original Kalyana Samayal Saadham.

The tamil one is available on hotstar.

Vikram Vedha an interesting movie. It is a different take on Vikram Beetal. Good acting by the lead actors, good direction, over all a very interesting movie.
