Watched a couple of movies last weekend after a long gap. Can only say that both of them are really fascinating films, not merely recommendable.
1. La Chambre Verte (The Green Room)
2. Umberto D.

Saw a fantastic movie a few days ago: Intouchables. Based on a true story. Very good.
It's always darkest before it goes completely black.

Iron Lady, exasperating with all the switchbacks, until you realize the theme isn't about biography. Disturbing to say the least. Nick would love this..
Tropa de Elite (2007) and it's sequel Tropa de Elite 2 - O Inimigo Agora É Outro (2010)... highly recommended! Watch in original Portuguese (with subtitles in your language, if required) if possible, not the English dubbed version.

This is a terrific movie. One of the best of the year. I had some good laughs. For a load of laughs, "The Dictator", written by and starring Sacha Baron Cohen. It is hilarious and I enjoyed it immensely.

Tropa De Elite was a great movie. And watched it with subtitles. I hate dubbed version.
Will definitely go for the part 2. Now planning to re-watch Stanley Kubric's The Shinning

Will I get shot down in flames if I say I laughed so much at Lesbian Vampire Killers?

Sounds like a title; not seen it. Checking now, I guess that's pretty new? (Well, three years old.) Thought it must be some early 70's exploitation flic.

This one is not a movie (is a mini-series) but i couldnt think of a better forum to put it. It has apparently been simulcast around the globe (I watched it on Nat Geo here in India): http://channel.nationalgeographic.co...amed-americas/.
While Josh Brolin (the narrator) is no david atternborough (as also noted by a reviewer online), he does bring life into the series. Besides, the scale at which most of the series is shot, has to be seen on a large TV / large screen to be appreciated. Some of the scenes (like the parrots that take their first flight straight into an active volcanic crater in south america) have to be seen to be believed. Equally good, if not better was the quest of the lone tundra wolf trying to take down a single caribou running. By the end of the scene, I was very sympathetic to the wolf.
Well worth the time .....
