Movie-Hit of the Summer?

Hi,

in 3 weeks I'll be in India and want to go to a movie. I remember from 10 years ago that there were only two big movie-hits that summer.
Their music was playing in every bus and chai shop.

Not sure, but I think it was "Kuch Kuch Hota Hai" and "Pardes"...?

Is there a hit like it this summer. Which movie should I watch, if I want to recognize the music all over India?

As far as I know - Race is a super-hit now, but it's been running quite a long time and don't know if it'll still be on screen in 3 weeks. The same about Jodhaa-Akbaar. I think if you like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai - you may like U, Me aur Hum... Don't sure about Bhootnath's boxoffise succes - but there is Amitabh Bachchan there as a ghost - and it's a pleasant movie - so you can try it too...

Iron Man is at an amazing $74.4 million in just 2 days. HUGE, no doubt about that. Anyway, after seeing the second Hancock trailer I must say I really underappreciated the box-office power of that Will Smith movie, it looks great and me might have another 300+ flick this summer.

Iron Man was pretty good, actually probably the first decent superhero movie since Batman Begins and Spiderman 2, I just can't wait 'till Dark Knight comes out this summer.

Hancock too looks really good, and Will Smith is my favorite actor, so I will have to go watch it.

There is nothing worthy of the name hit as far as I can tell so far this year. According to a list I have access to, there will be 38 bollywood movies released in the period Jun-July-Aug alone (the 'Bollywood' group in Facebook has such a listing). Most of the time, it's the luck of the draw which of the ones you'll get to see end up being successful.

Hit potential is very very hard to predict in the Bollywood industry. It doesn't depend on who's in it because critics and the moviegoing public in India are HARSH to say the least when the big stars put a foot wrong, doling out the dreaded 'FLOP!' verdict where deserved. 'Hit' seems to depend on a mix of good story and performances, and maddenly catchy tunes. You won't find out if something is a hit until a couple of days after the film is released.

Ask around. What are people watching? Movies release in India on Fridays. Suggest when you're in a town, you head for the nearest big moviehouse and find out if/when there are tix for the next big release. Start early as I've heard competition can be cutthroat in the first few days, especially in the bigger cities. Scalpers abound. However, don't leave it too late and miss the initial buzz, or it'll be you and ten lonely souls in a cavernous dark room...which doesn't sound like the experience you're after
