Literature

Hi all,

I'm off to India for my first time in a couple weeks and am looking for some reading material to take with me for what I am sure will be some long journeys or chilled out days. When I'm travelling I like having books about the place I'm im. So can anyone recommend any interesting reads? I've been looking around and whats been jumping up quite a bit is 'A Million Mutinies or India: An Area of Drakeness' by V. S. Naipaul...anybody read that?

thanks a bunch

please check out the Books, Movies, etc. forum, many book suggestions there -- I've moved your post to that forum.

Here's the link you want....

And, for a start, I'd recommend 'City of Djinn's' by William Dalrymple, 'Age of Kali' by the same author, and 'Shantaram' by Gregory David Roberts, which is more of a blockbuster-thriller type book, but highly entertaining.

Naipaul on India is a real bummer. Try one of the many great travel writers mentioned in the book threads--Dalrymple, Fishlock, etc.
