last hippie standing

I just finished watching the movie "Last hippie standing". It is a 45 minutes documentary made by a German guy about Goa in the 60s/70s and today. For those of you who are lovers of the hippie culture and for the ones who are lovers of Goa and the parties, the movie is a great souvenir from India.

You can find the movie here:

http://www.lasthippiestanding.com/

if you want to order it, like I did, go to the german amazon website and order it. they have limited editions, but if you check the amazon website often you can finally find it. that is what I did.

enjoy the movie!

I also saw the documentary...wasn't that enthusiastic about the way it was made, the interviews and the ending (at the love parade in Germany)...the 70s footage that was used for part of it was really great though! And very nice to see scenes of Goa...

The film was shown two seasons ago at Laguna Anjuna. They were running some kind of freak film festival at the time. Best thing about the film was the audience in attendance. One old chick kept shouting out "Oh there's so-and-so!" when she thought she recognized somebody.

Also, sometimes "8 Finger" Eddie gives a talk, for a nominal admission charge, about the old days. Keep an eye out for flyers in beach shacks advertising any appearances he might make.

So "8"finger Eddie does exist! My dad was telling me about him, as my dad was part of the 70s Goa scene for a while too...So "8"finger Eddie still lives in Goa?
That's amazing...I should take my dad back there some time. According to my dad he himself was quite a well-known figure back then but I never believe him...if someone here knows "8"finger Eddie maybe I can do some cross-checking!

8 finger eddie was one of the original Anjuna fathers. I believe a New Yorker by birth who served in 'Vietnam' got wounded, hence the 8 fingers & the pension from that funds his life.
A very nice guy, good attitude etc, Was always there at parties with his very distinctive dance moves,,,,,,,,,

Interested who your dad (name) is Priyamav or any specific stories, theres a few of us who survived those times & are still kicking around this board,,,,,,,,,,

My dad is Larry Nagel ... after Goa he went off to Auroville (I think around '73)
He came to India over land from the South of France where he lived for a while.

By the way...my name is Priyam

Hi Priyam,
Ummm no, Larry doesn't ring any bells, but in those days you often knew people by nick names or just by sight or some distiguishing way of dressing.
I'm sure he must have been on the same trails as the rest of us though.

Yeah in the early 70's most people came the overland route, no cheap flights or charters in those days,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

8 fingered Eddy . . . cool!

Glad to hear a few of us are still around doing the same thing, lolol . Mostly when I hear 'bout an old anjuna denizen it's cause they have passed away

'course, I'd have been one of the dead ones had I continued, but still . . .

I keep having this recurring fantasy about setting up an detox hut on anjuna for the season, but so far it's a fantasy. I do work in India (when I'm not working in states) in a rehab clinic run by a guy who managed a freak restaurant in Mahabs, but we're pretty legit these days
Isnt't life full of surprises

Thanks for that Seventies, I had a kind of hippy "ideal" about the title, as perhaps his prowess on the guitar, still the real story is more thought provoking!!

Such a facinating subject for me!
I'm a multifaceted traveller these days but somehow I try to approach things with the authinticity, awareness, and humbleness that these groundbreakers brought to India!

The people I read about from these times only wanted to be there in "their" time, they gravitated towards a local way of life and didn't carelessly abandon the magic of their hidaways.
Hedoism, Sex, Drugs were a very real part of the myth but many have left a positve impact in the place they called home!!
