Kolkata Dover Lane Music Festival

Could anyone advise me the date and venue of the Dover Street Music Festival in Kolkata. And how can I buy tickets to attend? I shall be arriving in India mid-January and would like to listen to good classical Indian music while in the country.

Dover Lane Music Conference, one of the largest Indian Classical musical events is held in Kolkata for the past two or three decades. The festival is conducted at Nazrul Mancha every year between January 22 and 26. The music maestros from all over the country get together and create magic which is a real treat for music lovers.

I am in India for 6 months to study sitar and I am also planning to go there, but I am in Pune right now, so I want to know the exact schedule and performing artists. Anyone know where I can find it.
Also if someone is interested, maybe we can go together and meet at the festival, just mail me.

and this is another link that lists all the musc festivals in india in 2005.. so you can try the other concerts too f you like it in dover lane or miss it for some reason...the dover lane thing takes place in the last week of january. this site also has the names of concert organisers at ther delhi and bombay venue (but for some reason not ther kolkata venue, which si where the dover lane concert is!! ). for a "complete idiot's guide to indian classical music", the main page of this website, at http://makar-records.com/siteus/frameconcert.html is not a bad place to visit. they got loads of stuff and info and also nclude a "contact us" , e-mail id section , from where i hope more info regarding the dover lane concert and its ticket bookings can be obtained.


btw when you are at dover lane, you could also have a look at the "southern avenue lake" and the "vivekananda library" which are very close. the former is, along with the "maidan", the other "lungs" of calcutta city.

i suggest you also send a BCC of the mail to sangeetnatak@bol.net.in, which is the mail id of sangeet natak academy, the umbrella org of all indian classic music+dance+drama forms. they also have a "query" page at http://www.sangeetnatak.org/contactus_yourquery.html, where you can go and type your specific classical indian musc related question and also supply your e-mail id. in all probability they will find out the info you you, and send you a reply. all the best. let me know if it worked - if not i wll find out for you in other ways
