Know any good Bookstores In Delhi?

We will be in Delhi for a few days in Feb. 04. I was wondering if anyone knows of any good used book stores there? Or have you been to a used bookstore in Delhi? Prefferably near Connaught Circus. In particular I'm looking for a few select books on Hindi cinema that are pretty hard to get outside India or are out of print.

EDIT NOTE: Moved to correct forum.

While languishing outside India you can browse Vedams Film Book section

Not a used bookshop but The Bookworm just around the corner off Connaught Place has a great selection of English language books about India.

If they don't have what you're looking for they can probably suggest where you might find it.

Gobookshopping are a joke. I ordered around 3000RS worth of books and even phoned them when I was in India to confirm the order and ask they send it asap. After 3 weeks I had still not received the books so I phoned again the muppets had not bothered to mail the books out. They then said they would get me all the titles and I could pick them up in Delhi. As they had messed me about I said ok but then did not bother to pick them up instead I went to Bookworm.

For new books I recommend the "English Book Store" at 17-L, Connaught Circus. Besides having a good collection of titles, the Manager and salespersons are courteous and helpful. They have maintained the books neatly too, something I accord the highest importance to, in a bookstore.

Are there any that will give discounts in Delhi ? I use a book supplier in Punjab when visiting relatives and he gives me a 10% discount but he can take a while to get books in from publishers.

YES, I know of an excellent second hand book shop in the central Connaught Place area of Delhi..i do not have the exact name, but can describe how to get there..IF you know where Bookworm is, on B block, just keep walking up the road to the middle circle..There, right on the corner, in the mist of the mad middle circle and traffic, you will see overflowing stalls of second hand books, piled high everywhere..IF you touch, they all come rolling down, but the owner is a very nice gentleman, knows his stuff, and if ya tell him what you are looking for, he will pile you up high with books, and remeber you forever..eVERYtime i come by he loads me up with books in my favorite subjects, and also, usually gives me a pile of magazines..IF he doesn't have what you need, he will usuually be able to get it, within the hour or the day, and just keep you chatting..his prices are very good, and he will buy back everything he sells to you..he also has alot of travel books, LP, ROUGH GUIDES, ETC, for many destinations worldwide..Unfortunately i forget the name of the actual place, but you can not miss it, in the middle circle...speak with the owner and tell him what you need..HE is often found sitting in his big car, sipping chai and chatting with his ecclectic freinds..I have joined him on occasion, and met very intersting folks, had my fortune told, hand read, etc, etc... this place is a real find!
OTHER book stores in Delhi that i like, are those located in KHAN market..These do not sell used books, but have great selections in peaceful environments..IF you go to KHAN MARKET, on the main strip there are two very nice books stores, as well as some smaller magazine/type places..oh, and when you are at KHAN MARKET, U can also do some great shopping and have a good meal...
Other places to look for books/old/new in Delhi would be both the stalls of JANPATH MARKET(mostly new), and of course, in and around PARHganj..There are also a few excellent english language bookstores in some of the other Delhi neigborhoods, such as south extension, Vasant vijar, etc, but Connaught PLACE and KHAN market are more centrally located...happy readings. I think you mean Anil Book Centre. Its behind the huge cinema theatre( whose name I forget!!), in the middle circle. I visited it on my recent visit, looking for two books in particular: "Plain tales from the hills" by Kipling and "Simla past and present" by Edward Buck. The knowledgable but over confident owner couldn't get either for me after making me wait for 24 hours!

YES sHIMLA, I think it it the Anil book shop, and yes, it is near a big cinema, i think the PLAZA. well, he certainley does try hard to find second hand books in and around Delhi, and is quite knowledgable and really quite a character. at least he tries...if it is around second hand, he probably will ultiamtely find it, maybe you need longer then 24 hours, ha ha..He does have a very large collection of second hand books, and has on numerous occasions located a book for me. If he doesn't have exactly what you are looking for, or can't get it, he finds out what are your intersts/subjects/authors, and just piles you high with alternative books..sometimes i have to make him promise not to give me another book..

Bonita,
The theatre is indeed PLAZA, now that you mention the name! It is not just Plaza, but "rlp PLAZA" or something!!

Regarding my needing longer than 24 hours for the books in question, you are certainly right, as I've now waited almost 4 years( I suppose the last year and a half will not count, as I've been in Yangon for the best part) looking for the books !!!
Never found them in Mumbai, Nashik; and now Delhi!! Wonder how much longer will I have to wait!!
