Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham

I would really appreciate help in finding the name of a piece of music which I heard in Goa.

Amazing the same music is also heard early on in the film Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham during the second scene (after the school cricket match) when the mother and the grand mother are in the temple.

It's not part of the "official" sound track and that is why it is not listed on any website.

I guess its some form of religious refrain/ chant.

Any suggestions as to the name of the music would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Tony

Does it sound like
" jai jagadeesha hareee...swamy jai jagadeesha hareee "
If that is it ..it is a devotional song.

You can go to www.raaga.com and search for
"Om jai jagadish" in hindi version and listen to it.

Dunno the movie, but thats the Gayatri Mantra, as Ann says. A basic chant (though I am no expert) of the Arya Samajis.

Besides online translations and stuff, Arya Samaj places anywhere in the world will chant this regularly at almost all functions.

Gayatri Mantra is supposed to be one of the MOST sacred mantras. It is very powerful and should be chanted with utmost cleanliness. Women are not supposed to chant it , and only guys ,after the thread ceremony, start chanting chanting it.

I never knew that the women are not supposed to chant Gayatri Mantra. Do you have any reliable source so that we can confirm?

Venkat, Gayatri Mantra is a chant which women chant while praying to Tulsi plant. My grandpa who is a member of Vikaspreet (a Gayatri foundation in Halidwar) has always asked us to chant Gayatri Mantra. So everyone in this world can chant Gayatri Mantra.

I wud second Ann on this. In north India its said tht Gayatri Mantra MUST be chanted by the lady of the house for peace n harmony in the family. Infact I ahve been chanting it to my baby and have found him sleeping peacefully which is not the case when we just sing some lullaby to him....So I feel that this Mantra keeps one calm n composed

Well, this is a sensitive issue and let me be clear that i am not at all gender biased.

Gayatri Mantra is a 'very powerful' mantra and generates huge amounts of energy and power. It needs to be learnt from a Guru. I was told about the same during my Thread Ceremony(Upanayanam). Again, one has to be very clean while chanting the mantra.

Various leaders of different Hindu sects have different beliefs. Some of them argue that the mantra can be chanted anywhere-anytime. I am not sure of this - i will neither support not argue on this argument, as my knowledge of the same is very limited. But one can 'Google' more on this to understand the mantra as such and the 'modus-operandi'.

help me

I appreciate the help in finding the name of a piece of music that I heard.

It is unbelievable the same music was also heard when kajol celebrates the triumph of criqet and srk targeted.

It is not part of the "official" soundtrack, and that is why it is not listed on any website.

Any suggestions for the name of music are welcome.

Thanks

Hi

Many (belated) thanks for helping me identify the music.

There are many examples available on youtube. My favourite is the version by Anuradha Paudwal.

The music is, of course, the Gayatri Mantra.

My mistake in not previously recognising it was because it seems to be in three parts with a slightly different beat in each part.

Great music - but the jury seems to be out whether it is meant to be sung, or chanted. And I think it is intended to be repeated 108 times (or 1008 if enough time is available !).
