Does anyone know if there are some big Indian classical music festivals happening from januari 2005 till april? If someone can give me some websites with the performers schedule that would be great! Thanks, |

classical music festivals.
Hi Barend,
In Chennai, musical festival is on since December 2nd and will last till around Jan 13.There are nearly a dozen cultural associations(we call then as sabhas) that are presently conducting classical musical festivals everyday from around 8am till 8pm everyday. Many noted and budding artists take part in this music festivals.Enrty is by tickets and already on full swing.Get a newspaper " THE Hindu" and you can find detailed programmes of every sabha. For your information, in Chennai month of Dec-Jan is called the month of music festival. This festival has been there for so many years. |

HI Barend,
in the link that i had given in the other thread, you can see the whole list of classical music concerts taking place in 2005. i suggest you mail sangeet natak academy for info on not just the dover lane conference but also some of the next few ones (i am guessing, they cant tell you who will be performing in the concerts in may-june..aug...dec 2005, 'costhe "menu" not confirmed, so far beforehand )all the best again. |

Lot's of great information for the concerts. Is there a newspaper, or some type of publication (such as Time Out in NY, for example) that lists all the cultural events like music concerts, theater plays or movies for Mumbai and Delhi? I mean, of course the local newspapers are always the first bet for those, but I'm wondering a separate type of publication, which normally would carry more details, etc. tks./

go here and write to the indian news papers from delhi calcutta and bombay, and ask them to please send you some details. explain you are from brazil and thus find it difficult to get such info. they should be able to offer some info. let tehm know when you intend to come to india. calcutta will be having the dover lane festival in late january. http://www.results.org/website/article.asp?id=428
by the way, where ever you are, germany, usa, brazil or uk or holland, there's almost always some kind of indian music concert, though not a full festival (except maybe rarely), going on in the top cities round the year. (specially in the summer tme in india. the artista stay in india in winter and tour the world in our summer time). i know it for a fact that most of them are sold out in no time. last year ravi shankar sold out in mexico even !!! |

City magazines - details of events
Most newspapers list the calendar of events, which includes plays, concerts, lectures, exhibitions etc.. once a week.
Delhi has city magazines such Delhi diary and First City. Most hotels, both in Delhi and Mumbai would give a complementary copy of a city magazine. India Today and some other magazines, also cover events.. however these are national magazines, tracking events in several cities, so their listings are not very comprehensive. |
