Indian art gallery opens in New Jersey

I thought maybe this might interest someone in the New York-New Jersey area.
I read this in todays Star Ledger in New Jersey.

New Jersey's first gallery devoted to the arts of India has opened in Edison............etc.

here's the link www.indigoartsonline.com

That place is definitely going to be a cash cow for the owner.

It's possible. With the largest concentration of Indians in America in the New York-New Jersey area (I think there's more than 300,000 if I remember right) it might do well.

Nothing there I'd part with good money for.

Oh dear, rip off a few ideas from modern European painters, use Indian subjects and...

To each his own. I liked some of the stuff. Its hard to really tell with a photo though. And I'm sure they have alot more than whats on their site. The masks weren't very impressive though.

I think they will do even better selling inexpensive artwork at high prices to the hoi-polloi New York leftie hipster set.

Some of the Indian stores around here sell authentic Indian artwork already, marked up only 300 percent or so.

Leftie hippies surely have better taste than that?

It's all subjective though. I personally don't understand Picasso, but lots of people think he's a genius. I think it's nonsense. Everyone has their own tastes and likes in art, music, etc. Just because one person doesn't like Madonna for example, theres plenty who do.

A shallow imitation of any artist, genius or not, liked or not, doesn't carry much weight with me.

Hipsters aren't hippies!

Hippies: long hair, beads, poor hygeine.

Hipsters: wear all black, drink "chai tea", enjoy flogging.

speaking of the subjectivity of art, here are some fun quizes you can take to see how much you "know" about art:

Sorry, Portie, missed that --- and I'm way behind on such things anyway

Frankly it looks to me like the kind of art that gets sold on pavements in london, and gets bought by tourist scrap merchants to hang over their beaten-copper bar counters.

Not that I'm a snob, or anything... Oh no....

Thanks for the quiz, Robotvoice. I scored 50%, which is not bad as some I had to skip 'cos the picture links were broken, and it is just before bed.

I got 67% on the test. But I don't think most of those pics are true art(in my opinion). And really it was mostly guesses.

Talking I am NO Artist

I scored a 75%. I don't know nothing about art whatsoever. I am the equivalent of the chimp that can do better guessing at the stock market than highly payed investment brokers.

Go figure!
