India Video Podcast

Imagine there was:

A well written and well directed video series, dedicated to travel in India (and maybe Nepal), with each episode being generally short and concise but which cuts past tourist attractions and into the heart of the city/town..

Offered twice a month over 3 months.. about 20-25 minutes each (no ads, except for sponsor's logo at the end)..

Had episodes on, I dunno, street food in Mumbai, holy Varanasi, or religion and the Nepalese in the hills..

Watch it on your computer, or download into your iPod (or other PMP).. watch anytime.

And it's free.

How does that sound to IMers?

I love India.. the travel literature (i.e. guidebooks) works for me, but I also like watching travel programs of the Discovery Channel Travel sorts. I'm tired of watching them on repeat, and of how when I want to watch a specific episode, there's really no way for me to. So I had this idea, I'm going to India next month, and I just might be able to get the resources to carry out all that.

Does that sound good at all?

If you've never heard of video podcasts before, take a look at:

Which would then lead me to ask the questions:

Are there any themes, subjects, which you've encountered on your travels to India, which you feel would make compelling documentary?

I'm not interested to make a "pull at heartstrings" type of thing, so I'd be wary to tread into areas like child prostitution (I mean, obviously it's an issue I'm concerned with, but having walked through Sonagachi once, I don't think I want to return with a huge video camera with boom pole)... more of... cultural themes.

Food? Tibetan and Nepalese settlement? The hill stations? Bus/train rides? Scenery: I want to show people how awesome the sunrise over Kanchenjunga is. Can you guys think of anything else?

Let me know your suggestions if you have any. I have a couple of ideas, but I obviously don't know as much about India as the rest of IM put together. :P

If u r interested in making a docu,I suggest u choose an offbeat destination- places that generally do not feature on regular tourists itenary.
I recently visited the Terracota temples of Bishnupur(in Bankura district ,WB).
Though it is well known in Bengal but I don't think outsiders are aware of its existence.
If u visit the hill districts-u have a lot of options like the Toy train,Tea gardens,u will find Tibetan settlements and their craftsmen working.
U can also record the feat of the Border Road Organisation in building and maintaining roads in the mountains without which travel in those regions would have been impossible.
At this moment i can recall these things, will post if i come across something else.

Thanks.. I should reassert the emphasis on "video podcast".

The important bit is not the india content, it's the format of distribution.. and extensibility. Not streaming. Downloadable upon update, to all platforms. To ipods and to computer screens and to other portable media players.

I'm doing this as a blogger with a fair reach of viewers, and I think for many people in my audience (East Asia/Europe/North America), they've never considered going to India before.. and this might let them catch a glimpse of it. Besides I don't think any travel podcast on asia currently exists..
