India Unbound

Has anyone read India Unbound?
From Amazon.com reader reviews, it got pretty mixed reviews. Would love to hear feedback from IMers who have read this book. Capt Mahajan?

I read it few years back. Its by Mr. Gurcharan Das, he was at a very senior position is Procter & Gamble and is a prominet columnist.

It reamins one of my favourite books till date, as a 20 year old it game insight about the relation between economics, history, cast system etc..

it had lot of examples of how tycoons like Tata and birla became what they are ..

How Manmohan Singh as finance minister in the cabinet of Narasimha Rao, helped open the economy and usher the developments..

It was an amazing book, specially for a growing up person, who was passionate about country and busines..

Thanks Shashank. Did you find it to be an easy read? I have done some heavy reading as of late and wanted something a bit easier in terms of how long it would take to read. I also have Sacred Games on my list and I'm having trouble deciding which one to read first.

Thanks for your help.

well its not a har read..I read it as college student..

but you need to remember that at time my knowledge was limited as india was experiencing the kind of growth as it is doing today..

so some of the facts that he has shared on the book are known now and hence might not be as surprising..however 5-6 years back they were something that I was not aware of..and I guess most of the people were not..

On India Unbound: Decent read, but I did find the overall thing a little one sided.. but expected it from a die hard multinational guy.

Sacred games: Good in parts. Too damn long.

Capt Mahajan, long time - no see.
I don't want to jump into a long book at this time. Just finishing up Ghost Wars which took me an eternity to finish. I think I'll either read India Unbound or Inheritance of Loss. Any reviews on Inheritance of Loss?

Capt Mahajan, what are you currently reading?

Sam, I will probably get lambasted for this, but The Inheritance of Loss is, IMHO, terribly overrated. I gave up half way. Another box office book, in my uncharitable view.

Currently reading 'The Hero's Walk' by Anita Rau Badami. Well written. A story about a South Indian family with a daughter in Canada, and a tragedy which befalls them.

India Unbound is an easy read; I liked the book as it explained the economics in palatable way (for me).

On the Inheritance of Loss, I too feel it being a bit overrated. Good read nonetheless but not much of a thought provoking stuff. Too many clichés.

I'll keep that in mind while reading Inheritance of Loss. Will probably read India Unbound first then. Anyone read Sacred Games yet?
Also heard of this book today: The Clash Within

Looks pretty good.
