Shot in Bombay
10.05pm – 11.45pm SBS
Tuesday 7 October 2008

This is in Sydney. Not sure of other parts of OZ.

The Mumbai film industry has long been rumoured to be associated with crime syndicates. The claim was publicly confirmed when, in 2007, one of its superstars, Sanjay Dutt, was convicted of possessing firearms linked to several terrorist attacks. The documentary follows Dutt as he makes his last film before being sentenced after a 13-year trial. Ironically, the film Shootout in Lokhandwala is based on the true story of Mumbai police officer, AA Khan, who became a national hero after a lengthy shootout with criminals. This big budget Bollywood production also involves director Apoorvia Lakhia, who has embarked on an action movie with a big star cast. The film features interviews and rare access to these actors both on and off-set. It also contains Sanjay Dutt's last interview before he serves a six-year prison sentence.

Caught a repeat of the first of Sanjeev Bhaskar's two-parter "Bombay Dreams"(?) last night - it was late, though, ending after midnight. He was in Mumbai (looking at rubbish and recycling ... oops wrong thread), Bangalore and Cochin.

Part 2 will be BBC2 11.20pm next Thursday 6th Nov, when he heads up towards Pakistan.
