CBS 60 Minutes Show (USA) - Shooting Tigers

The following show aired on USA networks on Sunday and is about conditions of tigers in the wild in India

You can watch the clip here: http://www.cbsnews.com/sections/i_vi...ml?id=2199652n

Or read the transcript here (if you are bandwidth challenged) : http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/...n2194502.shtml

Excerpt:
Quote:
(CBS) There were tigers, once, that ranged wild from Siberia to India, up to 100,000 of them. But not now: the world has gone from 100,000 to 5,000. And a recent, surprising discovery suggests that time is running out for the tigers that survive.

No one understands the decline of the tiger better than Belinda Wright, an Indian woman of English descent, who’s famous for shooting tigers – photographing them. Her daring encounters made her one of the great shooters, in fact, the first woman photographer at National Geographic. Correspondent Scott Pelley wanted to find out what’s driving wild tigers to extinction so 60 Minutes asked Wright to take our team into the jungle. ...

Caught the Accidental Angler on BBC2 last week and thois week.
Last week the presenter went down South to the Cauvery in search of the giant Mahsheer. and this week he started his hunt for the trout in Indian Kashmir before crossing the border to Burma.
Great viewing.
Looking forward to next week.

BBC 3 or 4 is also replaying Michael Palin's Himalays these days. Can watch it innumberable times. Saw the North East episode few days ago . Palin was in Assam and then went to meet thehead hunters of Nagaland. Wish I could travel to the seven sisters -- havent been beyond Darjeeling in the East!!

thxs for posting that crvlvr, the loss of the wild tiger is a very real problem, more action needs to be put into protecting the forests & other eco-systems without delay. Videos like this can only bring more awareness, so thxs for the link.

Road to Ladakh (2003) Short. Irrfan Khan, Koel Purie.

11.45pm – 12.45am SBS Monday 18 December 2006

This road movie is set in the magnificent wilderness moonscape of the Indian Himalayas. Sharon Kapoor is a highly strung journalist. When she gets a flat tyre and has to stop at a mountain pass to have it repaired, the roadside mechanic accidentally fits the tyre from another man's car tyre to her car. This leads to the mysterious man following her through the beautiful Kunzum Pass. Both travellers are alone and in search of companionship and when the two finally speak to one another, they tentatively negotiate the ground between suspicion and tenderness. The original musical score was composed by Susmit Sen and performed by the group Indian Ocean.

Here is a link to the movie.

I'd better have a good look for BBC world.

It's free (and easy to view) to the world, but I've never found it in the UK.

I'll start with BBC news 24, then flick through the channels.

Sounds interesting.
