By the way, Baz Luhrmann's Something For Everybody CD has an Indian-themed song - Nutbod [Houseboats of Kashmir Mix] - sooo beautiful!

New discovery:
Don't phunk with my heart - Black Eyed Peas.

If you hear the music, there's just a hint of Indian music theme/flavour/feel
but I just saw the video, n there was a girl in a 'choli' and that made the cut...

the beat/tune is really kitschy...

The lead singer of the American rock band LIVE was influenced by Indian philosophy and religion when he read a book by someone like Krishnamurti at the age of 19 and then later found a guru.

I really especially love this song from LIVE's V album "The Ride" - it starts off with these lyrics:

In the east, they can meditate
they can recreate the sound of OM and bring us home
I think I'll go there someday...

Great lyrics. This computer I'm on won't let me cut and paste though.

They also had an album called Secret Samadhi

The lead singer is a very socially committed person which I like.

IYOU, l love the title "Sari of Acidic Colours" cause I have one! Someone gave my mum in India in the 1960s a sari which she never wore because she thought it was hideous! But I've inherited it and I love it - it's a Japanese made fake chiffon sari of an acidic green and a geometric pattern - very nice.

(Having no idea of what 'time frames' we are of... )
Are you sure that really was a sari .. back in 60s for that matter...

Cos I am yet to see anything even loosly resembling a sari in Japan.

-------

wow... you guys n gals are fantastic... (not to patronize or anything)
but I now know a lot more of music that has India (even by the edges) in it.

And look what I found: Deja vu

In the 1960s many saris were made in Japan for the Indian market! They were "modern" nylon/chiffon style saris. This was one of them. They were always prints. They were all the rage back then!

I'm very fond of this "made in Japan chiffon nylex" sari because it's now about 50 years old! I got the Taschen Indian style book and there's an ageing Bollywood actress of about my mother's age wearing what looks like a made in Japan printed chiffon sari! It was hot fashion back then and she looks very elegant though actually the picture was only taken in the last few years. Wonder where she got it from? Is Japan still exporting these types of saris?

By the looks of it no...
bcos: 1 - there is no textile production in Japan (for export at least)
2 - India now makes its own synthetic clothing and natural fabric too.
(By the tons.)
