I Need Some Music For Overlaying On Camcorder Footage

I'll soon be starting to make a DVD out of my India trip footage and I need to buy some music to overlay on it.

I really like Ringa Ringa and Dreams On Fire from A.R.Rahman's Slumdog Millionaire soundtrack and would like to find similar stuff.

Any ideas for albums that I could buy in England?

may be you'd want to try out the sound track of movie Yahaan You'd get the flavor of some Kashmiri music in this album.

and Taal (music by AR.Rahman)

also try out this . there are other songs from the same movie that are equally good. And, music here is also by Rahman.

Try 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam' if you want some Rajasthani flavor

There are collections of 'instrumental' AR Rahman music available in sets over here in the US.

I have a fairly large collection all 'original CDs' plus instrumentals (?) of ARR.

Just searched ar rahman instrumental set in google and there are atleast 10 pages worth of results! And, not all of them 'original CDs'.

Ultimately, you being the producer-director, music-director, etc., you would have to see what works best for your visuals? No?

...

Edit: I would have to say that Slum Dog Millionaire is among the least of his achievements, imho.

Thanks for all the links guys although a few said that I couldn't get them in my country...strange.

I like quite a few of them but especially Kabhi Kabhi, that's the sort of thing I'm after.

I saw adverts for the latest A R Rahman collection during my recent trip and I've asked for it for my birthday in a couple of days time. But it's not available in the shops over here. I can get a couple of them online but none that I saw have got Kabhi Kabhi on them

I'll wait til Tuesday and see if I get anything, then it'll be off to Play.com I guess.

In my very humble opinion, ARR has lost his originality, but you will find real charm in the music for his early films such as Sangamam, Roja, etc.

I don't know about Southampton (but I guess you wouldn't be posting here if you could ) but if you can make it to London, you can find as much Bollywood/Tamil/Other Indian film music as you could dream of in areas such as Southall, Ealing Road, Green Street, East Ham and more.

Of course, there is a little matter of copyright, but that never seems to bother India much!

I guess I'm not really allowed to do anything but I'll buy the music (somewhere) and overlay it onto my footage for me to watch. I'll have to see what the Judge says when I'm banged up.

Thanks for the advice.

Did ARR write a song called Kabhi Kabhi? because there is an extremely well-known and well-loved song of that title - title song of a movie from the 70s - which isn't by ARR.

Also - just to make sure you know this, you can find most Indian film music on i-Tunes. For music for my own never-finished slide-video, I've been sampling everything on there in the category "raga," which then introduces me to various musicians.

PS this may not concern you but - when I think of using Hindi background music on projects, I worry a little about what if the words are insanely inappropriate to what I am showing, in case I ever show something to an Indian friend.

Sanskrit I figure is safer - may be wrong, but I figure it's mostly praising and praying, also I figure not so likely to be understood.

I know what you mean: I used to have a shirt with Chinese writing on it, someone told me it actually said 'ladyboy' which I doubted but I doubt I wore it much after that

Anyway I've sorted the music, an A.R.Rahman CD and an Indian-style chillout album.
